Finally done with my Red Dragon of Krynn
« on: 17 February 2014, 01:16:49 AM »
Hello Everyone,
I won an old Wargameswest Catalog on ebay the other day which re-sparked my mini painting.  I decided to finish my Red Dragon of Krynn that I had been working on for a few years now...

As a Kid I was always upset that I could never get it to "Fly" with the weak stick that came provided.  I knew I had to make the base waiver than the dragon, but this is where I ran into my road block... How to make it look good and ad weight.

What I ended taking the base that came with the dragon, took some green stuff and long fishing weights and made a supports for the clear rod that I had drilled and green stuffed into the dragon.  I was at this point for quite some time trying how to fill this part in and make it look good...

I had taken down my Salt Water tank about a month ago and I had this nice rock that was light and could break apart easy.  I broke it up and with superglue and green stuff built up the mound.

Now  I can move the dragon around with out any issues of it falling and it's very stable... Now if I can only go back to 1992 when people still played Battle System I would be good to go...  Hope you guys like it... Oh ya, it's lead!!!

Beautiful work!! The base really compliments the whole diorama effect. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work. I remember seeing this model advertised in GM magazine way back at the end of the 80's (or was it the very early 90's?). I thought it was the ultimate dragon model and really wanted one at the time.

I always thought this was one of the best dragons out there.  You can get one on ebay, they range in price from $25 to $90.  you just have to wait for the right one...

I think the old minis are a little more "dark" and not so cartoonish.  I think it makes them much cooler...

That is really lovely. There's something about flying dragons, especially with riders that just looks soooo very cool!

Edit: what scale is this, as it looks quite small?

He's a very cool dragon and you've done him up nicely. The base looks great - good work on getting him to fly! He looks like a natural ;)

It's 25mm.  The rider is very small, that is why I put it flying so high

Thanks everyone, for the kind words!!!  I am really happy with this one.

It's a fine figure and it looks really wonderful the way you've done it.

Very nice! After seeing how yours turned out I want to dig up mine and start on it, even knowing it will not look so nice.

The entire setup looks brilliant. Now bring on the silver dragon  ;)
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?
