Casualty marker, Ensign Kennedy of the 1st Royal Scots
« on: 24 February 2014, 06:19:53 PM »
Hi guys! Not necessarily a big battalion, but a little complement to my 1st Royal Scots :)

My first attempt at a larger conversion that involves green stuff for something else than just filling small gaps. Turned out rather nicely even if I say so myself. Getting the legs to looks sort of right turned out to be really hard and the right leg especially looks a bit weird. On the other hand the hair on the ensign turned out quite nicely.

I saw the story a year or so ago at Kippers Minis blog and decided I wanted to have the same kind of a casualty base for my 1st Royal Scots too. Ensign Kennedy himself was an ensign in the 1st Royal Scots at Waterloo. He was mortally wounded carrying the King's Colours in front of the Regiment. When a Sergeant tried to retrieve the flag the young ensign wouldn't let go, so the sergeant hoisted him on his back to carry him back to the British lines. Meanwhile the French were so impressed with the bravery that they stopped firing to let them get back to the British lines safely.

The conversion uses parts from both Victrix Line Infantry and Artillery sprues and some parts from the Perry Line Infantry sprue. The head of the flagpole comes from Warlord and the base is a Warbases casualty base.

Impressive bit of conversion work with the plastics and the putty work is excellent.
