can't tell about other maniacs, but in my book it is fine.  ;)
one other detail - when I read of the foreign legion cavalry which was installed after WW1 (a lot of former white russian cavalry apparently enlisted), it is said that with the summer uniform (sand khaki) they would still wear the winter heavy cloth pants (khaki moutarde), "like the chasseurs d'Afrique did".
I don't have neither a source nor an example for that, I am trying it out on my dismounted REC though.
I also don't know if they wore the gandourah, the legion cavalry and mounted companies did.

what figures do You use?

they also had cavalry blue piping on the pants seam (after WW1), and they could have used surplus US uniforms or uniforms made of surplus US cloth. Just to bring in a bit more madness  ;)

The majority of my figures are Woodbine Designs at the minute, I have some odd figures knocking about that are asking to be converted!!  Including a few Perry ACW cavalry.

oh, I'm lookig forward to seeing them - I am currently waiting myself for the first Woodbine shipping to arrive. Sadly most of them are in capote. I somehow expected You would be doing the nice RCA from Artizan. I have never seen them painted and they've been out over a year now.
