What's the programme called guys?

Not the Plantagenets? There was a small feature on William Marshal in the second programme (I find the narrator a bit dry and lacking in the military history dept.)

Darrell.

Cool, hopefully I will be able to get that to work over here in the US.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The Greatest Knight: William Marshall

BBC2 11.20 tonight.

Thanks Phil.... there was something very similar on a few years back, it's not the same programme but is surely the same story(?) based on a lone surviving manuscript actually commissioned by William Marshal's son. That's pretty much all the 'evidence' we have of his life story apart from a few snippets here and there.

Or on iplayer here:-
(and good it is too)

Thanks Elprez  8).

I'll give it a watch tonight.

Darrell.

The manuscript is more of a biography,it's a veritable tome with a lot of detail :o

But nevertheless it is a poem that was written by a famous French poet about the deeds of a man in a period of history when exageration and the twisting of a story to make a good yarn was very common.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's all rubbish, far from it, it is an extremely valuable source.... it just has to be taken with a pinch of salt at times like many Medieval manuscripts of that type.

Darrell.

Watched it at lunchtime.... as I suspected it was based upon the book commissioned by his son.

Pretty good programme considering TV programmes about the Middle Ages are usually disappointing.
