Somewhat of a paint disaster
« on: 27 March 2014, 08:44:13 AM »
well, like most bloke's mancaves mine is chock full of stuff, but when we had a new boiler installed I had two radiators put in so I could be in there in the winter.  The problem was space, and one had to go behind my painting table, over which was my carousel of GW paints.  Ooh yes, dear reader, you know the rest of the story........  Went to paint the not Scooby Doo figures last night, needing paints I rarely, if ever use, and realised that they were all dry. :'(

So, I am looking at these as a mobile storage sytem, thoughts?

I have the one above.
The wood is too thin, the "holes" are badly calculated, when you take your bottle away, if you hook the wood with the bottle, all the row vibrate and the paint fall.
I'd go for the second one.
Or a hand made system.

Well, it took me a few months to notice it........ Still,  as I said to Ramirez a few days ago, more than enough time for a tidy up......  The problem is moving stuff out, there isn't room to readjust all the furniture, but the paints will be moved to a cooler spot, but within arm's length.  Clearing the house is one of our big jobs in the summer, bin men be aware!!!!!

However, I shall soon be leaving the weary working class to join the retired painting class.

Well, I lost about 25 paints is the bad news, the good news is that most of them will have been run down and all but one were replaced from my paint stash.  Oh and it got me tidying up.  :D

I wouldn't throw away what is enough to be reused. Sine You will be having a lot of spare time (Ya lucky git  ;)), You could just as well experiment a bit with grinding back the pigment and mixing it with acrylic binder, sort of making Your own paints renaissance style  ;)

For the most part these were old Citadel/GW paints, so no great loss.  I had bought loads of cheap and second-hand paints over the years that are stashed away.

I understand, I did not mean the loss, but the experiment  ;)

I'm far too lazy for that, I'm afraid.  ;)

But I am pleased that my policy of stashing stuff for the future is paying me back.

While clearing up, I saw stuff I didn't think I had or hadn't seen in years.....  o_o

Only Ramirez has seen the extent of my painting stash.........  :o

My solution to paint storage is below an has been working quite well, it's very portable and keeps the paint organised.  The downside is not being able to read the labels without removing the bottle from the store.  I've got around that by numbering the bottles on their bottom and keeping all the frequently used ones in a specific place.

I've sorted the storage challenge for my Vallejo paints. I wanted a means of keeping them cap downwards as this seems to make them easier to use/mix.

Having bought a number of cheap plastic storage boxes from the local discount hardware store for the gaming table, it turned out that one of the sizes is slightly deeper than the height of a Vallejo dropper bottle.

A simple insert of 6mm MDF with 20mm holes drilled for the pots lets me hold 50 pots in the box, and the lid holds them in place when it's clipped on too. Now I just need to make some more inserts to store the rest.
