Game of Thrones WIP
« on: March 30, 2014, 03:51:32 PM »
Hi everyone, about a year ago I started watching the HBO show, and thought by about episode 3 that 'I would quite like to game this'.

I've been very inspired by all the other stuff I've seen people on here have produced, especially the very talented Mr Bibbly, and Captain Blood, as well as several others.

I have decided to post a description of my work so far, and also to ask for any suggestions anyone might have as to sources of additional minis, or scenery etc. My other big question at the moment is  rules, I'm scratching around trying to write my own, but also would recomend any suggestions from current ASoIaF / GoT

The First Image is of a unit of Tully medium infantry,

I also have a unit of medium infantry from House Umber

and a larger group from House Westerling

Looking cool, i like the Tully shields.

What scale are they? 15mm?

Very nice start! Ditto on the shields, and the banners look great too.

What rulesets do you have handy, or are you looking at? For mass combat, if you want to keep the 'fantastic' elements negligible or nonexistant (not much on Westeros battlefields anyway) I'd personally think about Hail Caesar or Warmaster Ancients. Though Mayhem might be pretty good for magic and non-magic alike. ;)

Additional minis... which ones are you using at the mo? I still have to get round to building me own ASoIaF armies, but I'll probably go for Corvus Belli and Mirliton 15mms. HYW and WotR stuff. I wonder if there'll be any distributors at Salute...

It's 15mm, and very nice.

The option is to also to go Eureka Miniatures 18mm Fantasy, but with the 15mm Essex you've used might be a too large.

This page might assist with options:

Oh snap. These are great. Part if me wished I was doing a smaller scale so I could have large units but it was the abundance of plastic 28mm kits that got me going in the first place so that's how I roll.

Love that you've got Tully's and Umbers.

Thanks for all the great feedback, in reply:

They are 15mm, mix of manufacturers, some Essex, Museum Miniatures and Peter Pig. For the banners I just used photoshop and some of the many images on the net.

For Rules, I had thought about Hail Caeser, I also looked into Peter Pig's bloody Barons.

The Abundance of plastic kits is very tempting, especially the Perry War of the Roses. I think it's probably easier to convert the 28's, but if one wants to go with the aesthetic of the show, I don't know if I could find the time to convert all those Lanister helmets.

I will also recommend legio herorica, some very nice medieval 15mm. They have 'crusader' and 'feudal' era troops as well as later 15th century ones, like the Perry wars of the roses figures.

Max - thanks for the recommendation, those Legio-Heroica figures certainly have the aesthetic I was aiming for. Do you know of any stockists, or is it mail order only?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I thought I'd post my recent painting after 3 weeks away.

Some unidentified Sell-swords probably fighting for Tywin or Renly

And of Course House Karstark
