I think they are great plastic toys and I'm looking forward to WGFs other AWI releases, the not-in-uniform insurgents and the brave native Americans in particular  ;)
That said I have to admit the figures are not without flaws.
-Shoulders too broad (even for the mighty Redcoat!)
-Hats appear a little too thick
-Slight inaccuracies/ missing details (straps for bottle/ haversack/ shoulder straps)
Only limited conversion possibilities (god knows what all those separate muskets and swords are for?!?)
The optional Light and Grenadier parts are fabulous though.
Personally I absolutely adore the regulation uniform and therefore I am grateful somebody released some plastics! Thank you WGF  8)

A (perhaps) better pic.
Shoulder straps are my addition.

Cheers

Musket and Tomahawk just got a lot cheaper.......... :o

The cost of the figures was never an issue for me. It's the price of the rules and overseas postage that is holding me back!

Red Coats look great BTW.

Fair review IMO, accurate criticisms.

I was most unhappy with the thick hat rim, but people who are not very precise painters and have a lot of them to paint (which I think will be the majority of buyers) should find them easy to paint, instead of having to make up where the tape is and paint freehand. So I can see why they may have gone that route.

Equally mystified by the number of muskets.

I too am looking forward to the militia and the Indians. Although I probably won't use the regualrs, I have to ask if a thick hat is really that noticable? The redcoat in the picture looks pretty good.

Painting a white stripe of tape on the edge helps for sure. The white stripe wasn't universal (and I think the officers in the Continental Army had black tape, even though privates had white) and it looks a little weird to me. Not that big of a deal really, it was just something that bothered me initially. For what its worth the hat brims on the survivor figures are too thick for me as well  ;)

The double muskets are there to Hollywoodise your troops, each soldier brandishing two muskets (one in each hand) while jumping over terrain and dying comrades. Can't wait for Wargames Factory to release the AWI chopper.

That said, nice painting SP.

Nice work General.
They do look like toy soldiers somehow, but I can see the appeal. There's something rather stylish about them - and who thought it would ever be possible to say that about a Wargames Factory product, thinking back to their early sets.
These also look to be a little bit less broad shouldered than the Brits.
The fact that they are tall and slim, rather than the usual wargames-figure-munchkin stout is to be commended too.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done with the Indians...

Nice piccies!

I've come up with a rather simple solution for the hat problem.

Just don't paint all of the brim and it looks much thinner.
At least from a distance  ;)

Okay, what the heck is going on with the pants...I can't figure out what the heck the designer was thinking making them like this.... o_o

We live in a time when with 3D design and printing it is easy to make prototypes prior to going to tooling...so why did WF go this route...I remain mystified...I really had high hopes that the issues discussed on various forums could be overcome. And if you read the WF forum site you would think that the guy in charge of R&D is practicing the fine art of propaganda...he attacks any constructive criticism with a hammer...wow...talk about how to really alienate people.

All that said, as the good Captain Blood said, they have a certain appeal to them as Toy Soldiers and for some this may be what they want...and as always, if you like them then that is all that matters...but please don't bring me over your wife that fell out of the ugly tree numerous times and try and convince me she is really a beauty queen...

Let's hope - pray - that the other sets are better than what he have seen thus far....but those pants....

PS And to be clear, some nice paint jobs by SP on the Brit and those Continentals are also nice (not sure about the blue hue...)...so I guess with a lot of make-up you can even make an ugly person look okay...

The faces look good...

I like the way you handled that Andy! Personally I'm not that bothered by the thickness of the brim. makes it easier to paint than the perry hats. What does bother me is the fact that the canteens have no straps. that is quite a let down

Obtuse and intolerant button counters who are arrogant enough to challenge Lonnie's superior and enlightened research work when they don't even know what they're talking about only get what they deserve, methinks  :D

Since one of my posts on the Steve Dean forum ended up being copied and pasted on the WGF boards without my being aware of it, I was particularly amused to be compared to a bigoted creationist who refuses to accept scientific evidence of the theory of evolution  lol

I am guessing that the computer design package has a generic wrinkled cloth texture built it and this has been used rather than thinking about the way that clothes wrinkle in real life  ::) Shame as the AWI sets are a step forward for Wargames Factory, just had include a half step backwards for some reason.
