Wow! I love both of these. Who makes those minis? The Vixen Valkeries and the young Jedi?

^^ What Bahir said.  There is another child with twin lightsabers and a panda with a double-ended lightsaber in the complete set.

:-* I love the purple in your entry Dr. M ....I would live to hear your system for it when you get a chance.

The young Jedi are also quite superb.  Another rough choice!

The retro sci-fi women are from Hydra Miniatures. And I REALLY should get my Robot Legion and Galactic Rangers out for some painting... Thanks for reminding me of yet another drawer project  >:(  ;)

Adore the look of those vixens = could have been painted by Andy Warhol

Doctor, those are some gorgeously painted ladies. Entries like this one make me sit back and sigh. I have to come to terms with the fact that I may become a decent craftsman when it comes to painting mins, but I'll never be an artist like you (and others in this competition)!

Fantastic staging, too...!

I've considered buying those Valkeeri for a loooong time. The way you've painted them has me convinced to head to Hydra and push the "buy" button. Your brushwork is always so smooth. The ship is done so perfectly it looks like you must have airbrushed it. Did you?

If you're this side of the pond, the Wargames Emporium stock them (exclusively).

Thanks everyone, the Valkeeri are one of my all time favorite ranges, very crisp sculpts and great character.

Wow.  Stunning stuff Dr M.  Well and truly outclassed on this one.

Thanks Thargor, you're no slouch at painting yourself. It looks like you replaced the sabers too... that couldn't have been easy  o_o

the purple in your entry Dr. M ....I would live to hear your system for it when you get a chance.

Vallejo 'Hexed Lichen' (or its GW equivalent, I think they designed it to match, I think it is called Liche Purple, I have both), followed by Ceramcoat 'Pansy', then  'Pansy' with a little white. If it's looking a little dull or milky I give it a glaze of an old Citadel ink called 'Purple Glaze', which is kind of magenta.

I have to come to terms with the fact that I may become a decent craftsman when it comes to painting mins, but I'll never be an artist like you (and others in this competition)!

With all due respect it's nothing but a lot of practice, no reason you can't do the same from what I've seen of your painting. Any 'artistry' is just using color theory, in this case the odd 'tertiary triad', and being careful about where things are located in the photo.
And yes there's some talent this year, a lot of early battle wounds for almost everyone so far :)

Like I said, the Valkeeri are great :) I bought them not even having a purpose in mind, I don't do that very often.

The purple on the jetsled is indeed airbrushed, to save time if for no other reason. It's smooth but not very well shaded- it looks pretty flat and not quite what I was hoping for. Same purple recipe as above without the glaze. All the other parts of the sled are with a standard 'ole bristle brush. My airbrush technique is not very refined :)

a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

What are the (spherical) alien plants on the bases in the Valkeeri pic, btw? They look organic - seed pod of a kind?

And the crystal 'trees' are a fantastic addition.  8)
