Jim - both appear to be scratchbuilt - no distinguishing marks to suggest a manufacturer - keep your eyes peeled on ebay..

I had been looking at the Thomas the Tank Engine ones made by ERTL for my British Strange Aeons setting.
I am not sure if they are perfectly to scale, but have asked an ebayer seller for the measurements of the beasties.

If they're the ones I've seen in Toys'R'Us, then they aren't very big.

Giles, do you have a link to the ones you bought? It'd be interesting to see the listing you bought from so we know what we're looking for  :D
So many projects..... so little time.......

Ah, maybe not then.

EDIT: Just checked my ebay messages and it seems that they must be the ones that you saw.
The ERTL ones come in at about 15cms, so far too small.

Mason,

There are several sizes of TTE  "Bulstrode" I've found..

The 'bath buddy' one I've held & measured is 7.5", quite short & visually too wide, available with or without cargo & a lifeboat.
It is most easily distinguished by having virtually no deck space at all, just a cargo hold.

There is a longer plastic one I've been looking for that's variously  listed as 15" or 16", so quite respectable for the beam width.
I believe this to be the starting point for several of the projects on here.  It has deck space & cargo hold both.

The wooden "Bulstrode" lists as being 7", and is an odd shape to my eye.  I've never actually seen, or measured one.

I'll add that ERTL one to my list as uselessly small.

You sometimes get wooden ones in souvenir shops (I think I saw some in Skipton last autumn). Probably in towns with canal connections?

Believe it ort not we saw some souvenir barges at a shop near Harlech Castle earlier in the week - - don't understand some retailers - this one was miles from a  canal. Offered the guy a £5 for the one in in the window - priced £19.99 - of course he said no but you know what he will never sell it !
