Lovely piece Michael  :-*

In your blog you have the note about the first mention of mobile artillery from 1436. From which year is the first mention about artillery on that side of the kingdom?

In Finnish side one of the first surviving mentions is from 1429 as the holder of Viipuri castle and county, Krister Nilsson, writes about a gunner named Kort who had ran away from duty :)

Appreciated mateys !

I run this tex throught google translate from Swedish, havent fixed it so you have to excuse me about that.

"At the bloody battles between the Swedes and the German vitalized brothers in 1390 's spoken for
the first time a cannon in Sweden . Stockholm besieged by the queen Margaretha's troops. The Defenders
was imprisoned Albrecht of Mecklenburg faithful . One of vitalized leaders , Master Hugo, tried years
1393 relieve the town by water but rescue strength froze with his ships out at Dillsboro.
He managed to finally get through. The Germans soon followed suit brought four stone guns
and six lodbössor . Only through peace negotiations in 1395 lifted the siege of Stockholm and then mentioned
" One of them grote busse " that existed at the castle Tre Kronor .

During Queen Margarethas unionstid would be cannon be used. Margaretha envoy
eg in 1403 a landstigningshär to Gotland to chase away the Teutonic Knights. a German
rescue fleet arrived , however, Visby , which among other things had brought guns.

Already in the oldest accounts of Stockholm , we meet costs for firearms . year 1431
took the city of guns and gunpowder but also had permanent " byssemästare " and " byssegjutare " .
The city received this year to pay 22 cents land 7 to Helmich Bysseskytta buying byssekrut for . addition
they paid 7 cents for byssestenar and a ground for bysseställningar . Year 1436 mentioned " bysseskyttanom "
and " byssegjutarnom " additionally is purchased for a total of 12 soil " two gaggle bössesten " . task
is interesting because it shows that, at that time had its own cannon manufacturing in Stockholm .
That same year bought saltpeter for 40 marks which shows that also had gunpowder manufacturing here
city. In 1464 mentioned a gunpowder maker , Master Berend , " which made powder for radhsins behoff . " Year
subsequently received him not less than 120 pounds saltpetre and spirits for gunpowder manufacture . The Liquor
used to boil the powder in."

The so calleded Mörkö handgonne, from Sweden. A medieval hand cannon of casted bronze. Calibre 21 mm. Found by a fisherman in the Baltic Sea at the coast of Södermansland near Nynäs before 1828. Decorated with a fully plastic bearded mans head above the touch hole and a religous inscription in gothic minuscle MARIA several times. Dated to the 14th century

Thanks Michael,

it seems that gunpowder guns were in use around same time all around the kingdom.

I'm currently working in a project for the Olavinlinna castle and it has been interesting to read about the gunpowder related matters, many times there has been far more cannons than actual master gunners and gunners in the castle.
