A good start! Looks like Foundry figures, and did you use the Gary Chalk sloop plans?

Nice and gamey looking.

Hi Pete,

yes there are some foundry figs in there and most likely a few others types as well. I bought them off my friend who has a vast collection. The painting is entirely my own feeble efforts though.

I have looked at the Gary Chalk plans but no it is not based on that. I wanted something long and thin to try to keep a more cutter style shape. So I gots a heap of sketches and photo's of models and made my own plans. I have started on my medium ship which will be something simaler but have drafted plans for a Frigate as the large vessel. Not that I evey expect my crew to use it. But I like building.

Can you please define Gamey? that could be taken a few ways. As I said I am new to this board but I wouldn't like to think I am being insulted straight up.

Cheers Neil

Probably "Gamey" as in "Easy to game on or appealing to the tabletop." Insults around here are pretty scarce.

I like your plan because it is less tubby than some of the schemes I've seen. The simplicty of the sloop design was what caught my eye. I think your work paid off well here.

Thanks Pete,

that was how I was hoping it was meant. It was also my intent when building it.

Enough room for a crew of 12-15 with 2-4 cannons and still enough room left for a few brave souls to try to board. I tried to keep all the proportions as close as I could to plans and pictures of real cutters as I figured it would be a nice clean lined vessel for a small ship. I to do not like the tubby shapes of some models out there.

Thanks for your comments.

Neil

You have to be a real plonker to get serious insults on this forum!

Even I haven't managed to get any yet  lol

It's a lovely little ship and like Pete, I also took "gamey" to mean easy to play with. Some ships are little works of art but no good as wargames toys - yours looks just right to use in a game, but is still very attractive.

You've included some great features in your model!

I want one too!

Good going.

Neil Todd... welcome aboard! ;)

Very nice cutter!  And I really like how you did the rigging...  looks great and adds fantastic detail, but it looks like you can still get at your figures easily.  Another example of being very gamey! lol  Currently looking at these details on models since I am trying to plan useable realistic rigging for my ships for LotHS.

Hi Darkoath,

I went to spotlight which is a sewing and craft store chain in Australia. The cotton I used is manufactured by DMC in France. I got a roll of the no 8 ECRU. cost me about $2 for more than I can ever imagine using  (the ball is 10 grams).

Then I just cut the lenghts I wanted cut, tied and glued in place. I used some beads to give the impression of pullies. When I do my larger ships I will use some hooks so I can remove the mast. The sails are just butchers paper.
