Greek watchtower garrisons?

There used to be small watchtowers in some parts of ancient Greece, e.g. (IIRC) near Nemea, apparently at the heads of valleys that were near the borders with adjacent states. Their small size would have implied fairly small garrisons, so it's not as if they could have stopped very much. Might they have been signal towers? What sort of garrisons might they have had? Hoplites? Psiloi?

I think I would go for a few unarmoured hoplites and their slaves equipped as psiloi?

Unarmoured hoplites and psiloi yes and the size of the garrison probably depended on the importance of the place and the state of warfare or peace.
Probably if on a war period the garrison would increase and in peace time decrease or even neglected, again depending on the importance of the place.

A watchtower implies a sized garrison depending on its phisical size.
A signal tower would probably needed a very small garrison of 2 or 3.
