Dead Man's Hand: Basing question
« on: May 03, 2014, 07:17:51 AM »
Just got the rules and leafed though them, seem like alot of fun and should be great to play. I really can't wait, but I noticed it says "6-12 figures on 25mm bases". I have a few Old West stuff based on my normal 30mm round lip that I wanted to use, and I was going to base my "offical" gangs the same way.

So my question is, do they really need to be based on 25's? I'm using scatch built terrian and no one else besides me are buying into Old West stuff. Does it make alot of difference?

Thanks!

You can do whatever you want mate, there are no rules for basing in the book. I use pennies and for the odd figure 2 pence pieces. Its up to you, I use smaller sizes so they can fit into buildings, doorways etc :)

i agree. pennies are the way forward. once you start you will kick yourself for ever having spent money on it. theyre weighty, clean, easy to use,. have a nice grip for glue and as mentioned, perfectly small :)

I personally really like the bases that come with the dead mans hand figures,  they are laser cut mdf.  I dont see why the base size would matter though

it matters for things like building and wagon capacity when you move your models.  But at range, base to base distance should stays consistent based on movement.

It was actually set at 25mm to facilitate model buildings. It doesn't matter, stick to the 30mm bases. Rebasing is generally a crime against the baby Jesus for me.

My wild west stuff is all on 20mm squares with clipped corners, or 40x20 for mounted figures. Base size doesn’t matter in the rules.

I'm using 15mm figures. I got the LWTV Tombstone Tinderbox when it came out.
Smaller bases would facilitate more figures in confined spaces or in combat, with surrounding a figure.
