South American companies
« on: May 04, 2014, 01:49:26 PM »
While their are a proliferation of North American companies, both official and player made, has anyone made a South American one e, I'm planning some sort of banana republic style company.
Thanks

I posted ann excel spread sheet ("Beast Master") based on a 'Tarzan clone' Company in South America.

Basically Jaguars in place of Leopards/hunting cats; Andacondas; New World Monkeys, that kinds of thing.  Oh, and a "lost ancient empire" survivor priestess as a sidekick.

Gracias,

Glenn

Edit: still painting figures at this time, I can send you a spreadsheet to review as mental fodder but it is pretty straight forward "Tarzan Lite" in South America.

Now, a Gaucho based party would be awesome...  Or something from a failed revolution...

I think a South American dictatorship's forces could be represented by the Mexican Enforcement company in HVF but I'd still rather have something interesting and unusual. I'll give it a think.

Does anyone have any images on South American armies in the late 1800's/ early 1900's. My most relevant Osprey book is on the Chaco War so is out by about 40 years. The only pictures I can find online seem to be in dress uniform.

Any comments appreciated

Just a  thought - I tried the advanced search tool for one army "Uniform Argentina" and found several threads of varying information so maybe another search might lead to a thread with a possible answer for you?

Advanced searches on LAF lead to

Wow. That's an insane amount of research there. I'm sure I'll be able to find something that can be used in that little lot. All I need now is some miniatures to represent them.
Thanks

Having looked at the excellent resources gathered by Conquistador it seems to me that the majority of South American armies in the late 1800's resembled something of a cross between contemporary French, Contemporary German, ACW and Napoleonic armies. As such several miniature sources have the potential to represent VSF South Americans in IHMN. The ones I've found so far are all chosen not only because of their resemblance to various real South American units but also because of their price, the fact they are plastic and the small quantity of men you get with each box as this is a skirmish game:

Please feel free to suggest which you think is most appropriate or if you know any other good manufacturers of suitable miniatures that I haven't mentioned. This list is just a series of suggestions and I'm unsure which is the best for the period.
Thanks Frontline armchair
