My Pulp city :barber shop
« on: 16 July 2008, 01:54:07 AM »
I've been working on a pulp city project for a while now and I have about sixteen models in various stages of non completion, and after seeing Fritzy's Old London project zip along I thought I should have at least one finished building after two years of dabbling! So I sat down at the workbench and put some effort into one of my smaller buildings and finished the exterior and most of the inside (still need to make a barber's chair)some of the details did'nt come out exactly like I wanted but over all I'm happy  with the result :) I used two of the dollar store boxes I talked about in my workbench post a while back. The dark strip at the side is the base coat for an alley which is going to run into a couple of other model bases so won't be finished untill I can do them all at once to insure continuity.

any helpful sugestions would be appreciated this ones done but I have a dozen to go

Nice building. To me, the brick is a little bit too red. I would dry brush it with some dark brown or maybe black.

Very nice Odd Duck, you've been holding out, 16 buildings :o :o. That puts me to shame :'(.  Note to myself, must make more.
I don't know if the flash brightens the red up that much or if it's the red itself, but personally I think you could tone it down a bit. Keep up the good work and more piccies please.
Oh the insides are comming along well, and I like the back stairs to the yard.

Cheers

Thanks for the nice comments.while the Red isnt 'as dark as I would like it, it does'nt look as light in real life as it does in the photos! I will be doing a bit more on the next brick buildings to darken and dirty them up a bit.As to the 16 buildings I've been dabbling with this project for over 2 years starting with foamcore facades of storefronts and then the big building boom when I discovered the dollar store craft boxes and really got ahead of myself, starting new Ideas before I finished the earlier ones, I'm now trying to exert some self disipline and finish off these models before starting any new projects. The fact that I've found some plasti-struct products ideal for making fire escapes and stairs will help as these have been a major stumbling block.

Looks excellent... out of interest what is it made of? I can see the wood bits are balsa or similar... interested as I want to pinch the ideas.... Any buildings I make are blown up, damaged ones... this looks really good

I hope you've got piles of cut hair on the floor on the interior...  ;)
Can you get static grass in hair colours?

Seriously, looks great. Love the fire escape and rickety backyard. Nice start. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the street... How about a bookmaker's next?

Yep, I like it. Nicely done, especially since we are able to look inside through the window. Cool. Perfect place for a shootout...

Luckyjoe the Barber pole is just a piece of wood dowel between the two ends of  a wooden coffee stir stick the top is part of an ear ring from my odd bits box, paint the dowel white and used paintpens for the red and blue ,I painted a longer section than I needed and cut out the section that turned out best not perfect close up but fine from a distance.
