A couple of Ramshackle vehicles...
« on: July 17, 2008, 10:07:03 AM »
The Badger is now completely finished, EM4 figure for scale purposes.  It will serve as fire support with my Nahcatac desert force

I've also converted a Ramshackle Quad: I made a lengthened chassis (plasticard) with small "wings" (to make the mudguards stick out a little), placed the engine at the back (protected by a wire cage) and added a scratchbuilt rocket launcher and a 1/48 Tamiya oildrum, jerrycan and 2 backpacks.  The vehicle is to serve with my airborne brigade and will be landed by droppod (in the pipeline...)

Nice!!

Been thinking about buying some ramshackle vehicles for a while, but the lack of nicely painted vehicles stopped me every time (I don't like too much color on them ;))

was there a lot of cleaning up to be done on the resin?

Thank you all for your nice comments!

Ramshackle informed me that they are changing over to another type of resin (more durable than the old one).

In terms of cleaning up: the parts (because we are talking parts here, rather than vehicles, this being the R system) were "bubble free" (which means the moulds have no airchambers, causing little round resin bubbles in hard to reach places), but to be entirely honest: the top part of the castings in the mould (which is usually the bottom part of the model or at least the part not visible when built) needed some sanding.

Not that this poses a problem (not to me at least): all you need to do is to place a piece of rough sanding paper on a flat surface and move the part over it: it will become flat and flashfree easily.

In my experience this is better than trying to cut the flash from the part, unless you are familiar with resin in which case you can heat the casting up a while in an oven (70-80°C).  The casting will become more or less flexible and slightly sticky.  You may then cut it with a craft or X-acto type knife, but sanding does the trick just as well.

I personally don't like too much colour either: this makes models look toy-like.  Anyway: mine are to represent army vehicles rather than gang ones, so the less colour detail, the better.  The Badger will serve as a support vehicle for my Nahcatac desert force ("Catachan" inversed  :D) and the Quad as a support vehicle for my Airborne Brigade - AT43 repaints and airborne Ma.Ks).  I have SF vehicles from most manufacturers: many are "smooth" (and nice...), but there's something about the rugged appearance of the R models that charms the eye and made me place a second order (for starters...).

Taking the above into account, I can only recommand them to you!

Yeah, since Rudi said he was on this forum I have been reading it more!  Actually, Bullshot and Papa Midnight have put up some ace Ramshackle stuff too. Thats how I found out about this great forum. I love the painting contest!

Anyway, the models in our current range are are first wave of releases. Im in the middle of several new vehicles at the moment and would love to hear any comments or suggestions.

Victoriana seems a popular theme, so im going to be making lots of more modular steam engine and bits to make conversions to steam easier! However, the filigree look of Victorian engineering is hard to cast in resin! Well at I have a few odeas so hopefully it will turn out well...

The modular range is going to expand as much as possible really. I want to make it so that customers can easily convert thier vehicles into unique and awesome models.

Im also working on some bikes, all sold rider less, with legs or with rider. Essentially they will be a range of  post apocalyptic riders, but I intend to put in alot of character into each rider.

I have admired the Ramshackle models for some time, and the only reason I haven't picked any up yet is that we don't play any SciFi games (but I do like to occasionally paint something SciFi).  I really like the way you have painted them, with the more subdued/camo colors.
