The Medicis
« on: 24 May 2014, 04:12:07 PM »
I know the Medicis of Florence used subterfuge to meet their aims but did they ever engage in open battle with their enemies? If so what where their armies like?
Thanks

I could only find a reference to Gian Giacomo Medici:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gian_Giacomo_Medici
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Marciano

Who is not connected to the Medici of Florence. So at the moment no help.

Hi,
Lorenzo De Medici, as ruler of Florence, was in war with Volterra (a little tuscanian town) in may 1472.
Then was involved in the war of the Pazzi (Naples and the Pope against Florence, Venice and Milan).
In both wars there were not big battles but storms of castle and village.

The most famous military member of the Medici family was Giovanni dalle bande nere.
Master of the mercenary band Bande nere (black strips - put on the trouser after the dead of the pope (his uncle).

This is what i remember now without check the books.

Regards

Diego
