Cool LoTR pictures in medieval form

I saw this recently, apparently they are tolkiens illustrations used in Russian-language editions.  Not miniatures per se, but perhaps some nice inspirations!

That reminds me of the series of LotR illustrations Cor Blok did. They were similar - all done as pseudo-period illustrations, looking like early/intermediate middle ages artwork.

Many of these images remind me of Erol Otis paintings and drawings peppered throughout the early D&D products. So damn cool.
