Napoleon's Egyptian expeditions - miniatures?
« on: 21 July 2008, 08:42:17 AM »
Hi folks,
recently I've come across Napoleon's Egyptian expeditions (1798-1801) and I've asked myself why this exciting incident is hardly present among Colonial & Adventure wargamers. It's all there: mysterious ancient culture, colourful indigenes & colonial troops, cranky European explorers and so on.
Maybe it's because there's no decent miniatures range for the French in Egyptian uniforms? Asking on another forum put Old Glory & Elite Miniatures on the desk - but I'm a bit disappointed by their styles.

Therefore, if anybody knows another range for this conflict, please tell me!

In the meantime I've put up a 100 club at Eureka miniatures (LINK). I don't think it leads to results soon, but please feel free to share your references with them - or even join in with a pre-order. ;)

Eureka have in fact just brought out a range of French suitable for the early part of the expedition, they are previewing them at Historicon I think. Very nice sculpts. For troops in the later Kleber Ordinance kit of short jacket and pouf hat then Dixon do a range. I've not seen the Dixons, hopefully they aren't of the enormous head style Dixon seems to favour.

If your eyesight is up to it, Black Hat Miniatures have a really nice range for Napoleon in Egypt in 18mm - very nice little figures indeed.
Some pics on the Black Hat site here...

Forgot about Dixon. But it's a head problem me thinks. ;)
Should also have mentioned that I'm after a 25/28mm range. Anything beneath is too small for my aged eyes and my love for details.

Hi there,
This maybe as close to a discussion for Napoleonic Colonials as I will get. So here goes,
For a number of years, I have been looking for French (Revolutionary Period) which are compatible with the Redoubt "Wellington's Inidan Battles" Range. I have a very large British Sepoy and Native Princes Armies. The figures are huge.  The Cobblestone British Infantry are in scale with them.
I have longed just a get a small French Demi-Brigade to sitffen the hordes of native Indians I have accumulated, but can't find any figures that would be in scale.  The only figures are the Alternate Armies Elves and they are way too cartoonish to have a full unit of them.
I would just like to have one stand up fight with Sepoys and British Infantry I have.
Can anyone help?  The premise I am going with, is that Napoleon was able to get some troops over to India (as was his original plan) to help the Native Princes oust the British out of India.

There is a thread over on Steve Deans forum about a possible future range
