Facebook is positively horrible - a cluttered mess. I closed my account about 6 or so years ago. Once I a blue moon, I use my wife's to look at non-open Facebook pages (poor settings, usually) and want to scream in frustration. Awful!

Photobucket is awful.

Half the time if I follow a link to a picture, it just doesn't show up, just a nice big white box in the middle of the screen, sometimes clicking to the next photo and back forces a re-draw. Also linking to photos seems to be very hard considering the number of posts from people on forums wanting to know how to get the right code from PB to paste into a forum.

I've been using Google Picasa (the web version) for a good few years now, and it works great. Especially with a plugin straight into Aperture to upload photos directly to a web album.

I use Imgur. I have never had a problem with it.

Same here, I highly recommend it.

Photobucket had the issues Cubs mentioned, plus it started resizing photos on me.

Also, photobucket has MUCH lower bandwidth/upload/whatever caps. I've seen people just on here share convention photos and just the traffic from the wargaming community alone was enough to "max out" that PB account, followed by demands from photobucket to the user to buy a regular paid membership. Whereas I have never seen that happen for any imgur image ever.

maybe it's just because i'm a filthy student, but i think it'd be great if we could embed instagram pictures on here as a means of photo hosting.Unlimited storage, free to use :)

Anyone who dares to get that abominable Instagram filth on this site should be sentenced to henceforth only game in one-man Games Workshop stores on Summer days after school is out.

Most of the photos i post are taken through instagram because i don't have to do anything other than swipe a screen to get them online. all it is is a mobile hosting site, with the added benefit of allowing you to resize/rotate and adjust images with some very basic tools on your phone, removing the hassle of opening up gimp/photoshop and editing them. besides, it's actually full of people sharing pictures of miniatures, as well as teasers from alot of gaming companies who use it to embed images on all of their social networks without the need to upload the same image several times.
It's very fashionable to rip on it because of all the "hipsters" (a word i despise for a variety of reasons) using it to take crappy sepia photographs of the sky, but at the end of the day it's a very useful tool that could have the potential to make uploading images to the forum super simple.

I guess I'm missing something, but if I'm posting an image in my thread here I just upload it into the LAF gallery itself. Is there a reason to not do this?

It's easier on the site if you host the images yourself i think, requires less money/space on their part.

Having never used Instagram I can say nothing for or against it. I hear its often where people post photos of their food while it goes cold though.

aye alot of people do that, but you won't come across it unless you actively choose to see what they post. it's a photo sharing app, that allows you to share photos, tag them, embed them into social media sites and host them on certain sites.it also offers some basic filters and photo editing, alot of which is pretty meh, but some of which is really useful.

Remember the old days before digital photography? I ruined so many meals by taking photographs of the food, then running the film down to the chemist and waiting 2 days for them to be developed. Then of course, half of the pictures didn't come out properly and you'd have to select the best images to be copied from the negatives so you could post them to everyone you knew. By the time I got back to the dinner table there was a thick layer of mould over everything and I was severely malnourished.

Nice.   lol

I digress:  One of the reasons I took the multiple hundred $ hit and turned my new cursed Android in and reactivated a multiple years old flip-phone was to get away from all the flashy time/attention drainers.  My phone works fine as a... phone.  And it 'does text' - adequately - for my "Gen Y" and "Gen X" children (ages 21 to 42) to 'feel connected.'  I would have done the same/sane thing if I still had my iPhone - we have gone from using the technology to letting the technology use us.

Back on topic, I have no problems with Photobucket.  I post pictures for LAF and other game purposes then I delete them after a while.  I they are from someone's game I try and send them any decent shots first.  Gaming is ephemeral and I only keep pictures of older pieces that have fond memories from the 1970s/early 1980s, and not many of those.  Yes it is limited storage but I only long term store the few remaining archive pictures of family that have passed on.  Unlike older family members I do not destroy old (pre-digital) pictures after someone has died.

I will look at some of the sites suggested, thanks of those leads.

Gracias,

Glenn
