Snap, I just search on the web for pics with the heading 'Worn weathered doors' or 'Weathered Wood' etc then I copy the effects. It's like painting a picture, add a little paint here, darken it, lighten to show sun fading and scratches with steel wool and various other techniques.  ;)

Great suggestion! I use Google Images when I paint animals...I hadn't thought about it for structures. This ship is looking fantastic...can't wait to see it completed and part of a game!

Thats a different (and better, IMHO) spin on the salt rust technique. Thanks for sharing!

Looking good Prof!

It may just be my monitor, but the deck looks like the same color range as the rusty hull.

The funnel is now painted.

The story so far.

Before she became a tramp she was a steamer belonging to the 'The White Star' line with a regular run. The old salt was her Capt from day one for both. The company retired both on the same day and instead of paying the old salt all the money they owed him, they offered the steamer instead. How could he refuse? So he continued sailing her for people who ever they were and to places where ever they wanted to go. "Ship ahoy or bust" became the standard answer to all the questions that asked, "What direction are you heading to now?"

The native girl was a gift from an Hawaiian tribal Chief to the old salt for saving his life. She was his oldest daughter. (Long story for another time in a AAR)  The old salt adopted her as his own. Preferring the bottle, a good fight or a gambling den to any other distractions.

The chimp is now a pet after the old salt won it in a card\drinking game.   ;)
