Yes, definitely Laim Neeson from Taken.

Thanks

The way I read the kickstarter terms is that where there are UK backers then litigation can be filed in UK or USA (NY) courts. If this is correct (and I'm not a lawyer!) then I guess (and again, I'm not a lawyer!) a person who feels damaged by mockery might be able to choose to sue the project creator in England, where libel damages can be big money. Hopefully the creator has checked and satisfied themselves with the legal angle on this.

Edit: Forgot to add, IIRC in certain circumstances in the UK it's possible for a person to trademark their image, for which I guess unauthorised commercial use might lead to a UK case for damages, assuming the point above about UK courts is correct  (I'm not sure as I'm not a lawyer!)

Some people think that this is Harvey Keitel... But the general consensus is that it's Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills from Taken.

Thanks

So basicly, it would be okay for Grindhouse Games to put the Human character Jesse on the market, but not the zombivor version as that is a copy of Gordon Ramsey...

Arent the images of public figures open for parody?

Arent the images of public figures open for parody?

Only in the US is that the case.

In Canada, that's not the case at all.

In the UK it looks like it will be modeled after the US in a fairly short time. This from Wikipedia:

Quote
United Kingdom

Under existing copyright legislation (principally the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988), "There is currently no exception which covers the creation of parodies, caricatures or pastiches".[27] Parodies of works protected by copyright require the consent or permission of the copyright owner, unless they fall under existing fair use/fair dealing exceptions:

  • the part of the underlying work is not "substantial"
  • the use of the underlying work falls within the fair dealing exception for "criticism, review and news reporting"
  • enforcement of copyright is contrary to the public interest.

In 2006 the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property recommended that the UK should "create an exception to copyright for the purpose of caricature, parody or pastiche by 2008".[28] Following the first stage of a two-part public consultation, the Intellectual Property Office reported that the information received "was not sufficient to persuade us that the advantages of a new parody exception were sufficient to override the disadvantages to the creators and owners of the underlying work. There is therefore no proposal to change the current approach to parody, caricature and pastiche in the UK."[27]

However, following the Hargreaves Review in May 2011 (which made similar proposals to the Gowers Review) the Government has accepted these proposals broadly. A draft bill implementing, among other things, a Parody exception, is currently undergoing its second reading in the House of Commons.

Didn't reckognize Seth, thanks for pointing him out.

This is (again) getting expensive, but overall the sculpts of the survivors are really good and I really love having those avaiable for modern and post apoc games.

I would like to see Crocket & Tubbs, Micheal Knight, Austin Powers, Heisenberg, Deckard (or any other applicable role of Harrison Ford) and (one can hope) Sean Bean, Arnold Swarchenegger, Bill Murray and John Travolta. One can always hope ;)
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?

I agree. Modern Call of Cthulu themes look like a great option for these guys.

Austin Powers

There is already an Austin Powers, I got one last week when our local B&M store had a Zombicide night.

If you just want an Austin Powers, and don't require it to be from the Zombicide range, have a look a Blue Moon's "Pulp Characters" range: the "British Agents" pack.
Back from the dead, almost.

Honestly, if they did not give us a $10.00 credit, I wouldnt really think to sped anything on extras this time.  I have FAR more Survivor/Zombivore sets than I'll get to paint for a looooong time. Same goes with zeds.  Missing out on the odd one or two will leave me completely nonplussed...

Nonplussed? Does that mean your unperturbed? Or are you surprised and confused? :)

I *think* we're on the same page though. I have a billion zombies to paint already, many survivors still in raw plastic, zombivors that I will likely never paint, many scenarios that I have yet to play, and no more room in my closet for any more games... So the extras don't really grab me all that much... Actually, now I'm wondering why I even got in to this kickstarter?!? ;)

Thanks
n.
