Anyone suggest a good source of info on British/Indian Army uniforms of the 1930s?

The British appearance didn't really change much from their WW1 tropical rig right up to the outbreak of WW2. For the most part the same can be said for the Indians, though you seem to see Indian troops in shorts much more often between the wars than you did in WW1. By the late thirties the British and Indian armies' appearance begins to merge, with Indian troops dressing more like Tommies; in shorts, shirts and pullovers rather than the more traditional Indian Army getup.

There's an Osprey on the Indian Army 1914-47, and the Boris Mollo book "The Indian Army" is always to be recommended.

Wot 'e sed.

By the mid thirties, greybacks, shorts, hosetops and pattern '14 webbing. Some units favoured  sandals rather than boots.

Not my period by any stretch, but didn't the old greyback flannel shirt get replaced by a khaki version sometime in the '30s and the KD collared shirt also appear shortly after?

Yes, made of Aertex®.

Figures of Brits in greybacks can still do service on the tabletop though, for the early to mid-30s at least.

Try this Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/pages/British-Empire-Uniforms-1939-1943/365555366788383?refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpages%2FBritish-Empire-Uniforms-1939-1943%2F365555366788383&_rdr you don't need to be on Facebook to access it.

British Army Uniforms & Insignia of World War Two Brian L Davis has some details and shots from between the wars. Khaki drill & jungle green by M Bradley and R Ingram is also really useful.

James

Earliest photo I've seen dates to about 1938.
