A Ship for Captain Wolf??
« on: 03 July 2014, 04:56:53 PM »
Dave, Mila etal,

What sort of craft would you all envision Captain Wolf sailing in?  Would it be a paddle steamer of some sort or a sea going vessel with sails and steam?

I'd say some sort of small tramp freighter would fit the bill.

He's not the sort to get attached to a boat or ship, I don't think. He's in something different in every adventure, or without one at all most of the time.

Tramp steamer, paddle-wheel steamer, Melanesian outrigger, Kaiserliche Marine U-Boat, you name it...

I think I like this one best, though...

Yep, exactly what I was thinking of, a small, two masted schooner.  With a surprise or two hidden aboard.

Must confess I've read not a word about the chap, was he at all air-minded?
For some reason his pictures, & minis,  give a definite "anti-aero" vibe...

This perspicacity has also stood me in good stead with the ladies all these years...

Anti-aero? No, I wouldn't say so, not especially...

Um, er...   Maybe a bit.

I finally have a good use for my Minimi steamer!

Not to find it in the attic, dust it off and paint it...

Yes, Corto's had all sorts of ships. Though it seems to me he's Captaining a plain old freighter more often than not.

Well, putting my skills to work, I built a 12" long two masted schooner for him to captain, I'll post a link to pictures when its painted. A freighter, hmmn.

....A freighter, hmmn.

That's a thought I have to forcefully keep putting aside.
My tramp freighter dreams keep becoming gaming table sized.
One day soon I keep telling myself.

I figure somewhere around 14" long is as big as a tabletop ship can be.

A ship being large really isn't problematic, so long as it has plenty of good playable areas on it. Michi's Doreen is of course a great example, but lots of other models have multiple levels, plenty of cover, interesting structures, and often partially accessible interiors.

So far we know Wolf has a tramp steamer, called the Vento. But I'm sure he has others, or at least access to others.

THANKS for all the inspiration and ideas!  :-* :-*
