Romans (rather bigger than 6mm!) (Now with added allies!)
« on: August 03, 2014, 04:16:48 PM »
Hi chaps,

Having enjoyed seeing the 6mm legions yesterday, I thought I'd post some photos of a couple of legions of Aventine Republican Romans that I'm basing.  The minis were mostly painted by David Imrie and Shaun Watson.  Here are some shots of progress; it's largely been about basing, repainting plumes and so forth.  The plan is to have a Roman legion and an Allied legion, of around 100 each, ready for Partizan.  These pics are of the Roman legion.

Hi Jim, yes these ones can out a lot bushier that the last; I'm using a longer static grass.  I hope that they will match the others, sufficiently well...

Well, the frontage is 6cm so they would work with most systems.  But I use them with my own rules.

These units are a departure, most of mine are 24-strong.  I see these 16-strong units as smaller "maniples".

Looks very good :)

I thought about doing my project in 28mm but decided I would most likely be headed for an expensive burnout  :?

Looking forward to seeing this in September, it's a shame it will not be in the same light conditions as the Cremona game though.

Thanks chaps!

Yes Phil I will miss the lighting in the Park at Partizan.  OTOH if the rain is hammering down, it'll be a whole lot better indoors!

Re: Romans (rather bigger than 6mm!)- today with added Allies!

There are the Allied Principes for my new legions.  I bought these painted; one of the two original painters is really good (and the other isn't too shabby, either).  I did a little retouching and re-based them.  They are Aventines, of course.
