Here's a side view of the console - just managed to take one pic before the camera conked out :/

I'm tempted to tidy it up a bit now (never looked at it from such a low, close angle once I'd painted it) ;)

Should give you the general idea though?

that is nicely done... I need to get sticking....

good use of the bottle tops, they have a very nice look to them...

you seem to eat a lot of pizza's judging from the polystyrene  ;)

I was just about to ask about the dimpled walls.
We don't often eat pizza at all - can you give a better hint about what type of pizza ?

We don't eat pizza that often, honest (I'm just a bit of a hoarder when it comes to anything with modelling potential) ;)

I think that sort of packaging is usually used on supermarket home brands (in the UK at least) - basically any pizza that isn't in a box :)

That Tardis Scratchbuild is great, ever think about writing a tutorial?

Thanks, I'm pleased with the way it turned out :)

This is roughly how I made it:

First of all, get a chessex dice box, and remove the black base (which is useful for other projects!)

Then cut off the lower part that slots into the base (pink lines) - you can save this to make the TARDIS signs, later on.

Then cut along the green lines, so that you have a 'V' (or 'L'?) shaped piece of plastic - essentially, two completely intact sides of the dice box.

Next, carefully trim off about 5 or so mm from each side of your 'V' (or 'L'!) shape (3/16ths of an inch, for those watching in Imperial) - the blue shaded area in the picture.

These trimmed sides should then fit inside the part of the box that still has the roof.  I did this, because the box's proportioned looked too squat.  Glue in place, then trim off all excess plastic, until you have a box once more.  It ended up 33mm wide at the top of each side.

Trim box height slightly - mine is 48mm - that looks about right.

Next use plasticard strips (I used old hotel swipe cards from business trips) for the eight vertical edging strips, on each corner (I purposely didn't make them meet, to better resemble the molding on the original TARDIS).  And then put a strip across the top of each side (these are under each sign).

Then use thinner thickness strips of plastic, cut out of blister boxes (or similar) to do the recess moldings on the doors.  Do two door edges first, vertical strips (about 3mm wide), glued up flush against the thicker edging strips that are already there.  Then a double width one (6mm), in the middle of each side of the box vertically, top to bottom.  Then a thinner strip, glued centrally, on on top of that, top to bottom.

After that do the ten horizontal spans on each side, using the same, thin plastic, to make the door slats.

Use the bit of the box you saved earlier to make the sign panels (will need to be trimmed), or you can just use the thicker plasticard.

I made the roof from Fimo.

Add flashing light.  Add keyhole to the best looking side ;)

Add floor (I used swipe card again).

Paint.

Print the signs (at about 300 dpi) and slap 'em on.

If I made it again, I would probably leave the windows transparent, or paint them on the inside, or frost them. (I didn't think of that 'til I'd finished). :(

Hope this helps :)

Wow, ask and ye shall receive! Here I just thought you used a regular Chessex box and cut out a facade for it! Nice work, thanks for the plan!

Absolutely awesome work.

I must admit we just took the quick option and bought a resin casting from Ainsty/Old Crow for £2

Hmm, didn't know about the Aintsy/Old Crow option - I thought the only suitable one was the Black Tree model (seemed pricey).

I'll have to order one :)

They used to do one in clear resin too, but don't know if that's still available, and are looking at making an Edinburgh police box for a bit of variety. (The Edinburgh design is quite a nice one - makes a nice change from the Metropolitan)

I think the Scottish boxes are handily copyright free, as the Scottish police still has working boxes, where as the Met don't and lost the copyright to the Beeb.... or something like that...
