I've been watching an eBay listing for some Egyptian army limbers for the Sudan. Most of this chap's listings are Perry and they are listed as Perry. But I don't recognise half the minis as being from the Perry Sudan range.

This is the listing:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/28MM-PART-PAINTED-PERRY-COLONIAL-SUDAN-EGYPTIAN-ARTILLERY-WITH-LIMBERS-/151368636206?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item233e46172e

The officer in black is Perry and the mounted chaps probably are probably Perry gendarmes. The guns and crew are Perry. But the draught horses, limbers and rocket trough aren't, as far as I know.

Any fancy having a guess where they might be from? I checked Castaway Arts and Connisseur. Perhaps from a non-Sudan range?

Did you check wargames foundry?

They may have been sculped by the Perrys to foundry.

The mounts are Perry sculpts all right, and I suspect the limbers are too. My bet is horses from one of the Napoleonic British Artillery sets (BH41/42/43/44) with either plastic or metal ACW limbers. The riders are indeed Egyptian gendarmes from the Sudan range.

The limbers are surely a bit anachronistic for the Sudan (and the Second Anglo Afghan War  ;) :) ) Arthur?  ??? ???

Well, the guy who's selling the Egyptian artillery set above replaced the original British napoleonic limbers with ACW ones in either metal or plastic, so the anachronism would not be an issue here. Whether the ACW types are accurate for the Sudan is anyone's guess as I have no idea what Egyptian limbers looked like in 1884. I imagine the Krupp guns had their own specific limbers but these will probably pass if you're not too picky.

The type used by the British in Afghanistan is well documented but I don't think anyone produces it at the moment :

Well, except in 54mm that is :

On second thought, I'm suddenly wondering whether the limbers in the Ebay set are not Tiger Miniatures rather than Perry : the former produce a couple of late 19th century generic limbers that may well be the ones shown here. I'm positive about the horse teams being Perry, though.

I'm wondering if the Tiger miniatures generic limbers would do for the RA at Maiwand?  ??? :)

What do you think? I'm certainly going to need a limber or two for the game!  :)

I cant answer where the limbers you show come from, but for my Egyptian forces (shown in the thread
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=63366.msg762802#msg762802) I used the limbers and mule teams from Tiger miniatures.
