Never done kickstarter before but this is very appealing.

Do you have to register to invest the money?

Jim, Yes you register with Kickstarter and then you back the project via an Amazon account (they handle all the payments) which can be debit or credit card based.
When you pledge the sum is validated but not taken and can be increased/decreased at any time to the end of the project.
When it ends the funds you pledged are taken usually within a few hours. Some projects allow you to add items/purchases later via the same payment system.

Yes, you set up 2 accounts (if you do not already have an account with Amazon). Kickstarter and Amazon are not one and the same thing.
The Kickstarter account is simply a create name and password type thing, Amazon is more complex as you have addresses and financial stuff to include there as well.

It has already been funded so its likely to be available to buy on release.

Yup, I try not to spread myself around in the www too much 

If it's reached it's goal, I'll quite happily get it normally. A worthy piece in anyone's collection

With mentioning to those considering waiting, I contacted to ask about picking it up after the kickstarter this was the response

Fifty Dollars isn't that much for an hardcover, considering what's in it. BTW, Marder on the Samurai Archives forum posted his own translation of the O UMA JIRUSHI - An Illustrated Guide To The Scrolls, along with a family tree for many of the clans. I messaged Mr. Pretzer yesterday, thinking he might be a member, after I found out about the project here, but he was unaware of it. I'd still back this kickstarter, as the focus of the two appear to differ and it's nice to have a physical copy.

This kickstarter project ended 5 days ago, with 389 backers and $14,101 raised, over 9 times the $1500 goal. Since I donated $50 and it's past $10k, there's the option of donating a copy to a public or non-profit school, library, or similar organization, but I can't think of one - maybe the Boston Public Library, but I haven't been there in years.
