Thanks for the comments everybody. I'm getting to grips with M+T rules, while I like them I think they are not designed around the number of troops I have available. Both the British and French have 3 battalions of 30 figs each plus all the Indians and colonial troops. I think with a little tinkering I can get them to work how I want.

My egomania works that way too. It may be worth classing each battalion as 200 points or best fit if possible, that has been my plan although my figures are 24 figure battalions. If you go down the This very ground rules battalions are 20 figures max.

I think Patriots and loyalists could be an option when I did used these for AWI they worked well with formed units though would take a shufty before dipping toe

I started collecting the figures when Redoubt first brought them out and they sat in a box for ages, as usual. I intended to use the old Charles Grant rules from "the war game" book. The whole project sat on the back burner for so long a number of rule sets have come and gone. I do have a set of This very ground and The Sword and the Flame. Now I might look at pulling M+T and S+F together and see how they work.

Give "Sharp Practice" a try - card driven system very similar to M&T, designed for 40-150 figures per side, and there are adaptations for FIW in an article in one of the TFL Specials.

Check out my website as I have a rule set for FIW called Buckskins and Rangers. It won a PELA award at H-Con last year and again this year. Here is the website:

Looking for F&IW rules, I have to place my vote for "This Very Ground" from Iron Ivan.  Hands down thee rules for this period. An excellent set of rules with various optional rules for canoes & small boats, cannons and mounted folks.  The set also comes with an army type builder and several scenarios.  See link:
