I like the Jackson/Alan one. I like how it seem like the curtain wall is a little farther out, more room for a surrounding town. Love that entrance! The towers are a little nicer too.

I really like the mixture of Romanesque and Roman architecture of the PJ films but scaled down the way GW has done it. Peter Jackson always blows everything up out of proportions. Having seen the monumental buildings of Rome and Ephesos close up  I think the GW versions look a bit more plausible but still very impressive.

How about basing it on Tolkien's original sketch?

Never seen that before Guy, sounds daft but it's a really good rendition and very tempting :)

I think you should make your own rendition.

I am much in favour of LOTR being read as a book without any images but those in your mind's eye.

Timeless. Not fixed to any particular image.

I'm affraid the films 'ruined' that for ever. Even the arcaic cartoon movie left images in my mind I still see when re-reading some passages.

I always have the walls and towers of Carcassonne in my mind when reading about MT.

Yip, make your own, will be the best that way.

I remember having a Finnish version of "Atlas of Middle-Earth" or such as a kid with images done By John Blanche but can't remembe if there were any pics of Minas Tirith in it.

Sorry for the double-post...

but you are going to make two versions right, for both 28mm and 10mm gaming, right?  ;)

Here's an idea. You can do a 28mm scale at the base, 15mm near the middle and 6mm at the top. Forced perspective for the win. Now planning this out would be a pain, especially considering all the work you'd have to do making different sized brick for each level. Then again, you do love a challenge.

I voted with the Howe version, as it was what seemed most definitive to me before the films came out.
I am afraid that I do not share the Jackson visison on a lot of things, in fact I tend to agree with Andy....

That sounds like a cracking idea! Go on James, do the definitive version. None of the namby-pamby Jackson crap!  ;)

....and even that Crazy Viking....

I think you should make your own rendition.

....do what you saw before you saw the fillum.
That is what I want to do with my LotR project( when I get the painting mojo back, that is... ::)).
