obviously some kind of elephant gun

but she probably wouldn't be able to fire it unharmed

or maybe with her feet, since Miz Guthrie hasn't overcome her gigantic feet syndrome yet

Okay, I can buy the elephant gun/dinosaur hunt thing.   :D

It's VSF, if she can aim it, it works.  Games get too picky to get into that gritty level of play.  "She shoots, she scores... hits... she wounds, target rolls save for the wound, shooter rolls save to not hurt himself/herself" - you could have two players have a turn in that amount of... detail/time.   :o

Makes more sense than Victorian Era portable Arc Generators though...   o_o

Just model a tripod onto the gun.  No, not that kind of tripod.
She fires it supported.  Problem solved.

That looks like a boat gun - mounted on a swivel on the bow of a ship's boat or a the ship's rails. Probably about 1-1/4 inch bore, firing a solid ball or a canister full of musket balls to deter hostile natives in canoes. The swivel is bolted to the gun via the hole just in front of the lock.

I have a friend who has a similar original flintlock gun made for East India Company. We normally fired it attached to a swivel fitted to a post hammered into the ground. However, one friend fired it from the hip with a double musket powder charge in it (no ball or shot). Its weight absorbed some of the recoil. He said he certainly wouldn't want to fire it loaded with ball!

I've fired my .50 Hawkin Black powder rifle many times with nothing but a paper wad to hold in the powder and the kick is less than a .22 if I recall. That was with about 110 grains or so. With the ball the recoil is somewhat more significant. What caliber is the weapon in the picture?

I don't know, I used it as an example that firearms of this size exist.
I could not find a picture of a real elephant rifle. Muzzle loaders have of course less recoil than cartridge rifles of this calibre. the first antitank rifles were derived from such hunting weapons

Probably around 1-1/4" based on the example I've seen.

More likely a unipod; been in use since matchlocks, of course.

Don't think it'd be any help with recoil, though. A tripod would cause the firearm to leap up taking some more of the momentum. Not enough, mind you.

Anyway, I can't see the muzzle. I think it's .177 with a match stock.  lol
