The shoulderboards still had differently colored frame even for regular soliders, right? I think white for infantry, red for artillery and a brownish for reconnaissance units (at least I have used those so far and can't remember all the others ;)).

they all had the Waffenfarbe piping (which You will only do if You are a demon  ;)), but I am not sure if they did not dispense with it for the field uniform later in the war, to be honest. Anyway, it is a very different width compared to the NCO tresse

Not sure yet what I'll paint next after the late war Germans that I am doing right now. I'd probably first expand my US boys.
