Martian AAR - Tin Leg Foster's Defence
« on: 06 September 2014, 10:22:51 PM »
This afternoon I played a Martian skirmish game with Dr De'Ath using the Little Lead Adventures rules we are developing.

The scenario involved a meeting between Col 'Tin Leg' Foster of the British Martian Trade and Exploration Company (BMT) with a delegation of Martian traders. The setting for the meeting was a BMT camp on the edge of the desert wastelands, well out of reach of government officials in New Victoria.

Unfortunately, the meeting coincided with a raid by Sky Martians from the Raas-Taa-Farri and Ku-Ni-Lingaas clans. The Raas-Taa-Farri closed the distance while the guards slumbered under the Martian sun, crossing the sandbag defences just as they ere noticed by the leader of the trader delegation.

Col Foster quickly took charge of the troopers on sentry duty. A combination of fire from their Arioch Industries electrorifles and a charge by the traders blunted the Raas-Taa-Farri attack, giving Captain Woodbine time to gather the rest of the BMT troopers.

As the Raas-Taa-Farri warriors retired, so the Ku-Ni-Lingaas charged home agains the section of defences manned by BMT civilian employees ...

... only to be met by a canister round from Sergeant Ironside's Hotchkiss-Bullshott hand cannon (a fearsome weapon developed by the Bullshott Manufacturing Company for use by Impervious Suit troops, capable of firing the same 2pdr explosive shell and canister round normally used with the Hotchkiss mountain gun).

The Ku-Ni-Lingaas broke and fell back, but the space on the defences that they vacated was quickly filled as the Raas-Taa-Farri charged in. A swift attack by the warriors killed the civilians on the end of the line and allowed them to get inside the defensive perimeter. However, Captain Woodbine's section were able to blunt the attack using volley fire from their electrorifles, allowing a pincer movement by Lieutenant Edges' naval detachment and the Martian traders to secure victory against the Sky Martians. A final volley of rifle fire wiped out the Raas-Taa-Farri.

The now rallied Ku-Ni-Lingaas prepared to charge the exposed enemy who had crossed outside the defensive perimeter. However, Sergeant Ironside landed an explosive shell in the midst of the weakened Martian clan, causing them to rout.

This was an excellent game and a close run thing. Some very lucky hit rolls by the Earthers, and some atrocious Martian melee rolls prevented the Martians effectively storming the defences. Great fun!

We're planning to do an occasional set of linked games similar to the Softlove ones you've been playing, but with a different storyline and main characters. The two stories might even intersect from time to time at big games like Salute.

We're also looking at combining (existing) resources to put together Sandport, a large Martian frontier town (looking like a cross between a Tatooine settlement and Wild West mining town with a health dose of VSF tech thrown in), around which come of our games will be based. Fancy a Wild West (Martian) gunfight?
