Pydna At Partizan
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:15:36 PM »
I have put some pics on my blog of the above game spectacle put on by Simon (B De) Miller. Not the best of pics but it will give you some idea of the scale until better appear.

LOL, Phil!

I have a video of the game but haven't had time to post it yet.  It was a team effort, 5 friends minis were involved, and I'm pretty sure we all had a good time.  I have been trying to decide whether it would be worth the effort of putting on a bigger game at some point in the (distant) future; the answer is yes!

Best, Simon

Well Saxondog and I had a great time and was pleased to see some of my toys doing well on one flank at least.
I've put some pics on my blog too.

A great looking ancients battle as usual, Simon!  :)

Representing the foothills with sloping battle boards was an interesting choice. Weren't you nervous about the stability of the units, or does the slope appear greater in the images than it was in actuality?

Cheers,
Scott

I am very interested in reading your rules when the come out. This game is certainly a nice advertisement. How do the rule mechanisms handle pike?

Hi chaps,

Here's a video link, that gives a good impression of the game.

Scott, the slope wasn't very extreme, around 12%.  Nothing slid down, happily!

Goliad, drop me a line and I'll fill you in on how pike work.  They are very scary when moving forward in good going, but they don't like the rough!  Also they are in big trouble if they get disordered.

That's a nice little clip of a very impressive set-up, Simon! And you're right, the gradient looks gentler in the clip than in the pics.

Cheers,
Scott

An excellent game, great to see Simon and quite so many Romans/Greeks in action.  The slope appeared to be a mere molehill but was obviously quite hard work if you happened to be 28mm tall ;).

Looking forward to the Wargames Illustrated article!

Thanks James!  I suppose in scale it would be only 35' or so, but there were times when it must have seemed quite high to the Romans.  ;-)  Not exactly Keren...
