 :'( :'( :'(   nice chocolate box soldiers
Just  my opinion..and sorry if i,ll make, thanks to my poor English, a big mistake..but   the translation should not be Civic  Guard..that reminds me more a type of National Guard.but something like Internal Security Constabulary...the non or less militarised branch of the police..as  opposite to the full militarised and almost autonomous Gendarmerie
....a true National Guard was created as early as the Sicily Campaign by Garibaldi with former Nepaolitan deserters/stragglers...in fact almost 99% of menbers of Police / Gendarmerie Forces of the Reign at 99% rejected offers from Garibaldi to enter in his Army and prefered to be sent in jails in the North of Italy...

Hi I've some additional information about the "internal security force".

members must belong to specific social classes (nobility and / or bourgeois, however wealthy) and be of proven faith monarchical.
In Naples they were called Guardia di interna sicurezza while in the rest of the kingdom were called Guardie Urbane.
They were aged from 24 to 50, trained regularly they were serving only in cases of necessity.
The first mention (that I've found) is in 1813 where they are set up (also including from 1815 a squadron of hussars). The law provided for the job loss for those civil servants who refused to be part of it.
In 1833 (as well as new regulations), the command is assigned to the Prince of Salerno.
In 1835 (only for the troops of Naples) are promulgated new provisions (relating to uniform, weapons and who has had to contribute to the costs).
So I think that the illustration can refer to the official presentation of this new version.

I hope it is interesting for the reader

Regards

Diego

I think I told you before but my favorite would be Fra Pantaleo, Jesse White Mario and Alexandre Dumas!

in a book from a former Red Shirts officer that i read recently..there is a brief description, during a dinner held with Garibaldi and his retinue  in a conquered Palermo Governor Palace, of Alexander Dumas appearance and of his mistress...i will have a look at it..from what i remenber the bizzare extravagant French writer was described as quite flamboyant if not ridicoulous that make laugh the author (what can we expet from such a personality marauding after  the Red Shit's circus) while his copine , a small typical French woman (maybe met in Moulin Rouge  lol) , sporting a uniform "à la hussarde"

i remenber the passage about guns smuggled and offered to Garibaldi...the poor Author, i think Nodari, said that those guns were presented before the dinner...and they were all museum useless pieces..."ferraglia" (metal scraps)...but everyone was so polite, including Garibaldi and the turbulent Bixio, to thanks so much Dumas...which was reconpensated , at this very dinner, with  cakes made out of pumpkin..donated before to Garibaldi by the nuns of Palermo..he also remarked that Dumas was delighted
