I think that's a great idea Ged and I like the example. I think there's enough interest for a small guide to the armies and a campaign and battle overview. I'd love to see that in print.

glad you like the idea...........I have received the proofs back just need
Mrs Gringo to get em printed up. may take a few weeks but this will be
the first edition. I intend to laminate them for painting purposes.
there is a book on the campaign being written by me ,lavishly illustrated
with colour prints ...campaign details..orders of battle in depth and much new research

That sounds promising!

It is the siege of Rome that caught my interest. The uniforms are quite different from the second war so it would be very welcome. I am currently trying to convert ACW figures into Bersagliere to create the assault on Villa Corsini:

What information do you have on flags?

From what I can tell from prints the 1000seemed to have carried "Italian" tricolours. I worry that may be a later addition however.

As for the Neapolitans units all I can find is a white flag with the bourbon coat of arms on it. Do you have any more info? Did units carry a "kings colour" and a "regimental" one?

(I've had the same issue finding flag details for the 18thC Neapolitans I'm also painting up!!)

Thanks Ged, I do look forward to the Piccotti. One way of extending your range would be if you could do some loose heads. Calabria and Bersaglieri hats would be on my wish list... Something like this:

the flags issue is fairly complex...both sides carried the
tricolour with the Neapolitans  version having the bourbon
coat of arms on. Garibaldi troops lost a colour at the opening
of the campaign........still owned by Bourbon decendants!
I hope to post a pic or two of basic flags
my research seems to indicate some of the white flags were
taken out of mothballs towards the end of the campaign.

I think you brought up the idea on the loose heads yourself once for the 40mm Mexican range...

your right about the heads that was one of my goals for
my 40mm range 1846/48..

at present im gathering all images I can on the Neapolitan
Cacciatori (spelling)....as I may do some of these...

Sorry about the basing, but the lure of the hot sun proved too great so I took my Alfa for a spin top down instead....(must like Italian things eh?)

Here you go -

I've got some more figs on order which will finish off my infantry units. The minigames in NT's 19thC rules  require a max of 3 inf, 1 skirmish, 2 cav and 2 guns per side on a small table which is an excellent way to dip a toe into a period.  As the actual force composition may vary because it's diced for they're a great for having a rumble on the table of an evening when you don't really want to have to remember "page 6, paragraph 4 , line 3, except in woods, on a Thursday, if wearing underpants" type sets.

I'm sure many more games will follow!
