[Kickstarter] Minion miniatures
« on: September 15, 2014, 08:29:41 PM »
A new range of plastic goblins and zombies. Some really nice artistic sketches and renders of some proposed models as well. Hobgoblins and Bugbears proposed as well.

Typical fantasy tropes but they have also put up some details of a new set of fantasy rules, although I haven't had a chance to look at those yet.

Large funding total, will be interesting to see how it ends up.

I had seen this pre-viewed somewhere.  I'm all for new plastics and I hope they succeed but the sketches/models/designs are a bit over-the-top for me, personally.  I also don't think a bugbear should be standing 65mm tall, lol.

I think they set a pretty serious goal and I don't see them achieving it.  Maybe if they hadn't gone for goblins/zombies.  No pictures of the sprues or possible combinations doesn't help.  Renedra plastics are always well done.  For that kind of monetary goal they really need to have a picture of a complete (even if it's 3D theoretical) unit.

I'd love to have another successful range to occasionally look into, but this looks like a bridge too far.  Hope I'm wrong.

I think the basic Goblins and the Zombies shown so far look great, the bigger stuff I do not like at all. But agree that some images of the sprue options are required.

I like the bugbear! Although he's far too big for my liking...

The goblins are great.

I suspect you are right about the target figure Elbows, seems very steep.

Don't get me wrong - I like the bugbear...I just wouldn't use it as a bugbear.  Some huge ogre/troll thing, sure!  Also, at 1 pound per mini, they're not super cheap plastics.  You really need sprues, because at current the 108 figure pledge looks like you get 108 figures of about 4-5 minis...that's absurd.  I hope that's not what they actually intend.  With their pretty slick sculpting style I wonder if they would not be much better off going for a line of metals.  Their figures all have a ton of character and detail.  I think maybe simple packs of 10-12 metals would have been a smarter idea.

Will watch this with curiosity.  If it magically hits its goal, I may pledge for an odd character or two.  Note that the first additional unlock is over 100,000 pounds...

I really doubt all that detail will remain in the final plastic figures, if it's successful. Way too fine features, they'll either not come out right or be easily snapped. Good luck to them (and I do hope it's "real" plastic, as they keep saying :D) but it looks like another case of a 3d modeller deciding that silly established companies don't add enough detail because they can't, not because they intentionally don't.

(OK, I'm just grumpy and refuse to give money to any company that uses nonexistent words like "addon"...  >:(

Yeah, I think the material will be fine (as it says Renedra on several images...) but as I said earlier they look really 'overdone'.  I suspect we'll see a revised KS if this fails.

I don't usually go for this kind of stuff at all, but I do rather like the goblins.

Not really into these goblins myself. I do hope they succeed though.
