What type of orc do you like?

Well the more human-like variety are my favorite, particularly leaning towards LOTR movie orcs (the ones in the books are fine, too, I don't picture them significantly different to the movie versions, most of whom are stooped and waddle around a bit).  For gaming, I like my orcs roughly on par with humans, though, not Tolkien's orcs who died at least 3 or 4 to ever human they fought.

I also like Warcraft's orcs, although in general prefer less exaggerated equipment.  But I think they're a nice medium between the weaklings that Tolkien gives us and the uncivilized brutes that GW gives us.  The still fall into the "more human-like" category, for me.

Agree with an earlier poster, GW orcs are fun within their own setting, but not what I prefer outside of that as far as orcs go.

And I like my Citadel and related orcs to be right proper bilious GREEN in the John Blanche style dammit!  

It's not without its charm, but I must admit that I am a secret fan of the rust-red orc, from way back in early days of Warhammer. That's how I was first introduced to them.

The thing I can't stand is when all of them are uniformly musclebound. E.g. current GW, reaper, et al.

Likewise. Tough? Yes, that scrawny toughness born of a life scrapping for survival with every other member of your tribe and species. But roided up like Valleys boys on a night out in Cardiff? Surely that's for the boss orcs (as you said) and the Black Orcs (for which I eschew my love for the 80's-90's jaw-jut Citadel orcs and plump for the sturdy looking Nick Lund ones).

I really like Gygax's incarnation of humanoids in general.  The Orcs are distinctive in their piggyness, they are foul and warlike and they reproduce at a fast rate, even if they have a short life.  The blue/green/grey look to them also seemed to hold a nice quality over the straight green.  His goblins were shorter and more numerous, Kobolds even more so.  Yes, they were meant to be available for advancing players to combat, but the old pictures breathed so much life into the numbers.  Once I got my hands on the Otherworld sculpts, with some straight out of the Monster Manual, I could not explain my glee!  I'm just hooked.  All of that said, I also see the merit in why people choose other versions of the orc.  So many of the minis people posted have their own charm and character, it's not hard to see why people are crazy about them.  I guess we're all pretty lucky that these days there seem to be enough orcs to go around!

I know the feeling, since this thread started I have been regularly popping over to evilbay to check out vintage citadel orcs... But the prices...!!!  More and more they seem to be sold in lots with one good one in with several crap or broken ones

Well guy and myself just picked up a few bags of adgard orcs/goblins yesterday at a local convention.

I would, but I think we need mod/admin approval to make any sort of painting club.... Maybe ask White Knight when they get done with the WWI club they can do a goblin/orc club, or just ore or the other.  I'm positive there would be no shortage of submissions.

These are probably my favourite orcs anyone has ever made. Kev Adam's sculpts from Renegade Miniatures. I wish I had more than these 12, anyone got some stashed away they'd like to sell me?
