My First Attempt At Building Some Martian Tripods
« on: 26 October 2014, 06:56:49 AM »
Hi All,

I picked up some of the Martian Tripods for All Quiet on the Martian Front earlier this week and spent some time working on them over the weekend.

I'll be using these with my Colonial Period 28mm skirmish figures rather than with the 15mmish figures the game system uses...yes i am a heretic just dont tell anyone at the AQOFMF forum run by the Architects of War guys  :D.

The models are great and go together well. I built three 'assault' tripods as per the instructions excepting that I drilled out the eyes for LEDs and turned the black dust gun into a sort of green dust launcher (I'm sure all you AQOTMF guys are up with all this   :D )...

I have gone with for a metallic finish for my tripods using one of my favourite products Humbrol's Polished Metal paints.

Here's the three tripods freshly painted:

Here's two of them after I polished one, this paint really comes alive once that's done:

I am going to have to wait a while to complete these as I've ordered some luminous green paint for detailing but that's gonna take a couple of weeks to arrive from overseas, so I'll probably finish the electrics, bases and detail their weapons while I wait.

I hope you like them!

Cheers
Pete

Very nice - don't forget to send in the night time photos - would love to see the effect of the LEDs and luminous paint  :)

I've wondered about how these scale up for 28mm - how tall are they??

In January 2015's issue of Wargames Soldiers and Strategy there shall be a mini-supplement for IHMN based on the aftermath of the Martian Invasion.
These tripods are just the right size to act as Martian Patrol Tripods in the Martian company against their 28mm human opponents. I checked out some advance models on Nick Northstar's stand at Warlord Games Day in the summer.
I love it when a plan comes together  :D
