28mm Landsknect with Zewihander
« on: 18 December 2014, 08:10:54 PM »
H everyone, im looking for a few landsknects to go with this beauty.

http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=resin-master-%252d-maika-von-ostwald~hfmaster-h094&category=miniatures~%2Anew-toys%2A

I only want a handful of figures, maybe only even one, but just enough to make them look like a tiny band of mercenaries, rather than her on her own. Sadly I have no idea for sizes, so that is a shot in the dark, but style wise what would you suggest?

Pro Gloria do some nice ones I have seen, but they are impossible to get hold of at the minute, and I would prefer metal figures if possible. Artisan do some, but they seem slightly plain. Wargames foundry seem the best in terms of style, but only come with pikes. I could convert them to greatswords, but I would need to buy some greatswords... which is my second question. Does anyone know anywhere that sells weaponry for 28mm figures like that?

Do they have to be human? ;)

I have a few non-human ones in my range:

For this project yes, but I love that little fella in the tartan. Might have to get him another time

Style wise I think the Hasslefree figure is more along GW Empire lines than proper landsknecht. You could see if you could get some Empire Greatsword figures from eBay etc.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Check out the Lead Adventure range at lead-adventure.com. The Bruegelburg range has some landsknecht types, including great swords, that are more flamboyant than historical types. The Assault Group has lots of separate weapons in its Renaissance line that might be worth checking.

Not usually a fan of GW stuff, but I do quite like those!

For inspiration as to how landsknecht and swiss renaissance figures from certain different manufacturers can te utilized together for great effect, take a look at this wonderful post from last year.  One of the most beautiful renaissance armies posted on the site :

I love this army and its the kind of feel I want. I want a small band of troops with a cohesive unit feel, but no actual uniformity. I want them to either be a band of elite mercenaries, or an elite bodyguard unit. Either way, I want them to have individual equipment, but a theme that makes them feel like they go together. Are there any examples of painted Lead Adventure Landsknect with two handed swords?

I saw some very nice Pro Gloria ones as part of the command units; I dont suppose anyone knows where I can buy one of them right now?

Look at the 3rd screen, Mercenary billmen from Nurnburg posted by Craig2, right in the middle front row of the unit you will see a marching zweihander.  He's an LAM Bruegleberg Landsknecht.   BRU-23 Landsknecht Captain 2 (1)

Ah yes, I dont like him as much though :p I think the oversized sword puts me off, and I have a feeling I wont like the other two either. Shame, because some of them are really really cool. BRU - 30 particularly are very nice, and I could even convert some of them to holding zewihanders. I cant see in my head how they would fit with the HF figure though. I might be better using LAF figures for another project. They would make a great band of baddies for any dungeon crawl. I think I might get a few figures from a few places and see what goes together. I take it there is no way at all to get hold of Pro Gloria figures at the moment?

Well, this is what the swords of the other two LAM zweihanders look like:
http://www.lead-adventure.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=219
http://www.lead-adventure.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=218

If these are too big, you might be more comfortable with the Artizan zweihanders:
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1750
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1751

Artizan also have some nice halbardiers and a great looters set (I mix LAM and Artizan, along with old metal Warhammer Empire figures - they mix reasonably well)
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1827    The looters
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1825     halberds
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1822     halberds
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1748     arquebusiers
http://www.artizandesigns.com/prod.php?prod=1826    "officers," but as they note, work well also as guard troops.  There are many more landsknecht and swiss packs.

Its hard to get a real feel for the figures unpainted, but I dont like the look of them. If I get LAF ones it will probably be to convert them to swordsmen. I saw the Artizan ones, but im not sure they will work with the HF one either :/ I think they are too plain in comparison. Thanks anyway :D

The second is a real option, but I perfer not to buy games workshop stuff. I might give in on this. Even the emperors swords unit might do.

I think, however, I will get the guy on the right from this image
http://theminiaturespage.com/news/pics/2013/feb/1830744767c.jpg

and this guy

Any idea if these are available in metal?
