Warlord and the opposite of a shill thread
« on: 24 December 2014, 04:47:02 PM »
I've posted on warlord releases a couple of times so you could be forgiven for thinking me pro-warlord/a paid shill but...the latest release has to be among the worst miniatures i've ever seen.

That and don't get me wrong the other releases i've seen for Germany are good but tbh i'm tired of it, they should fill out the allies first, Germany does not need another plastic set either, i'd love to see Soviet paratroops or even a re-release of the older paul hicks stuff.

What say you laf? opinions? wishes?

I've thought the quality of their heads has been going down for some time.
I'd like to see some Americans with German weapons.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Can second that, got the red army box set off ebay(the 'redo' of the oldest Russian paul hicks sculpts) and it's a blast painting them (can Soviet officers have blue trousers or is that just NKVD?). I've asked them and the plan so far is no.

I've stated my loathing of separate heads before but this time it's not just them to blame, the porportions and legs especially look all wrong.

Tbh for most of the metal squad sets I can't see the point, the kriegsmarine for example; no one is going to buy more than one box set in most cases and the separate heads do ruin the look, metal separate heads make sense but to me it should either be metal with plastic add-ons or vice versa, metal on metal is too fiddly.

I don't have any issues with these miniatures, except for the first guy on the bottom row (the no-neck, glued on shoulders guy lol). I think that the legs may look wrong because of the camo pattern on most of the trousers/jackets - it makes them look longer.

Glad they come with separate heads, that way I can use my SOTR heads on them  ;D

I'd love to see some British/American/Soviet forces with looted weapons (the Siberian vets have a few), the Americans loved to do it (although they didn't seem to realize that lugers by ww2 were very rare/obsolete) and apparently British paratroops had an obsession with German submachineguns.

Also as an aside how do the assault group Japanese match up with warlord plastics? I love the tag officers.

Those metals look awefull but I'm really looking forward to their anounced plastic Panzergrenadiers. They look like they'll be as awesome as the Blitzkrieg Germans. And one thing is certain: WW2 Germans will always sell...

I think some of the metal poses are okay, I am more interested in the plastic Panzer Grenadiers though, especially the rolled up sleeves.

I don't think they're awful, but then neither do I think that they're particularly good - however, the proposed plastic panzer grenadier box looks like it might be pretty good, (their plastics are getting better, as demonstrated by the difference between the late war & the blitzkrieg boxes) & will remove the need for these.

How much was that tunic with the cod piece/loin cloth thingy used?
Warlord seems to think every German late war PG wore one.I've never seen a pic of one in any book but WGs rulebook myself.

what a shame, years ago, we were used to buy figures from a sculptor ...
now they sell us a trademark ...
 :?

i'm not a great fan of the future WG figures ... ( Senegaleses or Germans ... )  :-[
Dans les situations critiques, quand on parle avec un calibre bien en pogne, personne ne conteste plus. Y'a des statistiques là-dessus.

Oh if you're talking about the Zeltbahn so let me assure you it really was used quite often this way... there are plenty of pictures on Google as well as in several books and I have pictures of my Grandfather wearing one. Here some examples from almighty Google:

More BA gurners courtesy of Wotjek. Warlord have been very open about their desire to make comicbook models and comicbook game instead of a historical one and I guess the models sum it up. Definitely not for me.

It's a shame, because Paul Hicks' BA metals are superb pieces I'm always happy to buy.

Can't help but agree in that as much as I enjoy bolt action it is primarily destined to suck up 40k players (I myself used to be one although discovered the bolt action range long before warlords involvement).

The comic book style while at times quite enjoyable can be somewhat iffy, in that the ww2 comic style makes minis look quite characterful in the case of some ethnicities can be 'too characterful' (Japanese troops i'm looking at you).

The old Hicks sculpts were good it's a shame warlord has said they won't be re-releasing them (i've noticed though that some have returned such as the field police/cameraman so there's hope yet).

Also getting back to the other part of the discussion, as much as I like them Germany does not need another box set when some nations have yet to get a single miniature, not all 40k players (former or otherwise) have a deep seated love of fascism, plus that squad is to cheesy by far, any man who would field that many assault rifles would get the taste smacked out of their mouth for powergaming in some circles I know (and I can't help but somewhat agree).
