looks like it was pulled right out of some pulp/sci fi setting, or like it should be firing laser beams.

I want one - at least in 28mm scale.
And one of these too - the Impuls 2M fire retardant rocket launcher:

Apparently a tank chassis with a large water tank and a water cannon - couldn't find details on it.

Dang. I remember seeing a clip of that thing way back in my non-fiction film class. Always wished I'd kept a note of the documentary it was from, as I kept finding myself describing the awesome MIG engine tank that blows out oil well fires like candles to my friends.
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Trucks with jet engines are pretty cool too. Cold War era Soviet TMS-65 decontamination vehicle:

Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo
