Warhammer Bretonnians vs High Elves
« on: 14 January 2015, 05:56:33 PM »
Hello,

My friend Matt and I played the Dawn Attack scenario for the first game in our Warhammer Campaign. The Campaign builds in points each month to encourage us to paint new models for our armies as it developes.

Here is the first report: http://stevosminisoldiers.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/blighted-isle-campaign-he-vs-brets-dawn.html

I really hope you enjoy it and all feedback greatfully received.

The knights look great. I've enjoyed seeing them come along. I don't know a lot about the Brettonian book, but wouldn't you get more attacks from your knights if you were in 2 ranks rather than the lance? I assume you get more rank bonus from the lance, but I'd imagine the extra attacks might be worth the trade off?

Agreed with the others, looks great. :) Commiserations to your boys in white.

What edition are you using?

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your nice words.

We are playing 8th Ed, which works really well for us!

Dr Moon, the Lance allows you to fight with full attacks from any Knight on the outside edge when charging.
So 2 ranks of 5 would give 11 Knight attacks with Champion and 5 horses, in Lance from 9 Knihts you get 9 Knights and 7 from horses but with 1 additional rank bonus. So it might be a little bit apples and oranges. The key however is that if you have fewer ranks than your opponent then they are stubborn so you need those ranks to break them or you are going to get ground down and flank charged (see my battle report).
I am not sure I am an expert on using them (see battle report) but I think they look better in Lance.
If you do have any tactical advice it is all welcome.

Cheers

There's not much in it then is there? Especially as you'd have less frontage to receive attacks back in the lance formation.

As for tactical advice, I've very little to offer I'm afraid. I regularly get panned at Warhammer!

I end up siding on what looks better. I think I need to just be a lot cleverer with my movement and try and get good charges in. Refight next Tuesday. I'll keep you posted
