2nd Cuirassiers - 19 Apr
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:25:14 AM »
Regular followers of my blog will know that I've set myself the task of painting up a French Heavy Cavalry Division of two Cuirassier Brigades with support this year.

First up is the lead squadron of 2nd Cuirasisers c.1812:

Created in 1635 from an Ordnance company of Cardinal Richelieu and named Cardinal-Duc, in 1643 they were renamed the Royale-Cavalerie, and in 1791 the 2eme Regiment de Cavalerie. Their name changed once again in 1802 when the Regiment became the 2eme Regiment de Cavalerie-Cuirassiers. Finally in 1803, they were renamed the 2eme Regiment de Cuirassiers.

In 1812 their colours carried battle honours for Austerlitz, Jéna, Eylau, Friedland, Eckmühl, and Wagram, and for the invasion of Russia they served under GdB Bessières as part of Saint. Germain's 1st Heavy Cavalry Division.

Bonsoir Janner,

These look really excellent!

Perry Cuirassiers are splendid and I have a few myself.

Mine are metal too and I've even got a mixed regiment of Front Rank and Perry's which go together surprisingly well.

I also still use some Foundry figures which in a separate regiment which still look good.

Thanks for your post and I look forward to more updates!

Cheers,

Paul

Nice start - they are lovely. But by my calculation you'll need to increase productivity. Which I'd advise against - as quality is what you want to maintain.

I'm aiming at a squadron per month amongst other projects to keep things fresh.

Indeed. I'm also very fond of the Perry metal French cuirassiers : there's a somewhat massive quality about them that seems to be missing from their more slender plastic colleagues.

Next batch of six:

To be truthful, they are February's batch, but I've been too distracted to post them!

More shots on the blog as usual...

Very sharp, especially the musician. And for some reason the basing has really caught my eye.
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?
