Shiloh 1862, The Hornet's Nest

The Battle of Shiloh 6 April 1862

These are some picture from taken from a game session me and my friends staged recently using the Black Powder rules. The battle we tried to somehow reenact was the battle of Shiloh 6-7 of April 1862.

Our focus was first day of that battle. The first day was a major set back for the Union troops. The Confederates attacked a position known as Hornet's Nest. Well it seemed like this part of the battle was possible to recreate(considering the size of it all and the mintures available. The gaming table consisted of two 6x4 ft gaming tables placed next to each other.  The miniatures used were 28mm( a wild mix of diffrent manufacturers). After roughly 5 hour we had a result. We did not change history. The Union lost their position at Hornet's Nest.

The two battle lines clashes at the edge of Sunken Road.

The Confederates are trying to storm the Union Position......

Very nice, Shiloh is one of my favorite battles.  I wonder if the confederacy would have won if Albert Sidney Johnson didn't die.

First of all I Thank you for your compliments! As for Albert Sidney Johnston, Well he survived this game. That was actually a change of history. I had made specifik rules that would make it easier for the Union to zeal his fate.  I had also given him a high Command rating which might be questionable considering the major mess of the actual battle.

Thanks!  :)  Hopefully I will soon be able report more about the Nothren War Project. My club has few things in the works. As for ACW the plan is to recreate a part of the battle of Chickamagua. I found a useful article in an old copy of Wargames Illustrated. It will be a game about the same sizeable as the one in my game report.

Great looking game.  I just placed my first order with Sash and Saber for some of their 28mm infantry today.  Maybe one of these days I can hold a game like this one.
