Multicam for bases!?
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:26:44 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew of a basing scheme that would look equally (or at least a little) good for desert, temperate and urban terrain. I want to use different camo patterns for some sci-fi miniatures I've acquired to differentiate between units, but it would be nice to keep the bases the same for a unified look to the army.

At the moment the closest thing I can think of is a brown undercoat with a mix of grey and beige drybrushing, with some static grass to break up the lines a little. The rim of the base would either be dark brown or black (I find the GW approach to basing helps make models look a little "righter" on boards their bases don't match).

If you only know of a basing scheme that's good for two, then I would prefer temperate/desert. My urban board is a long way off.

Thanks all,
M

Hard to say. I think going for black or a neutral brown for the base edges is a good idea. To be honest, Games Workshop's current scheme of the neutral brown bases overall (not sure what actual paint is used) is probably about as good as it gets for not looking out of place on many different boards.

Clear resin bases from Fenris Games.

@ warburton: Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'll have to check out the modern GW paint scheme - I've been out of their sphere of influence for a few years now.

@Duff: That does look cool, but I'm a messy gluer and this is for 6mm micro-armour clashes in't future. I don't think it would quite work (plus I have a ton of MDF & plastic bases to use up!).
