Near Future 28mm Military Utility Robots?
« on: January 29, 2015, 06:34:10 PM »
Can anyone recommend some near future utility robots that would accompany troops on adventure, like Hasslefree's Modern Troopers line?  Like an almost-contemporary C3P0 or R2D2, though doesn't have to look like them.

There is a nice 3-pack from Reaper.  Eisenkorn (?) also has a 4-legged mule carrying robot but I'm looking for something that will fit on a single 25mm round base.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Oathsworn have a small tracked robot and a flying drone - these were provided in their recent Kickstarter:

Not sure if they're up for sale.

There's a cool Taskdroid in Pig Irons command packs.

Ral Partha's Vor range has not humanoid mule droids.

RAFM has aerial and spider drones in their USX range. Also there's a 4-legged Reaper CAV called 'Simba' that might work.  And I'll second the old VOR Union Mule drone. Still available from IWM, I believe.

Hydra Miniatures do some little robots and if you look in "My Secret Base" Thread you can see them plus some old 15mm "Space Station" Power armour minis that might do if you can find them? Also Pictured! (Like Asto-droids I think)

Go to admit to using some Hot wheels vehicles for some of the uses you and the others have suggested. But that's down to personal taste and finding suitable ones. Mars Discovery rover is one of my Faves!

Thanks for the responses, folks!

The Mars Discovery rover and the Pig Iron droid are exactly the kinds of things I'm looking for.

I wonder if I could make that Mars Discovery rover from scratch in tiny scale with similar mass to one of the people as opposed to being car-sized.

Just a question of a suitable chassis or wheels?

There are two sizes of Hot Wheel Rover, I have the smaller ones that come in the singular blisters.

They are about 5cm long though.

Maybe some N guage vehicles for the wheel base?

Just a thought. :?

Scale jump and try some of the 15mm drones from Ground Zero Games' Stargrunt range, perhaps with part swaps - the weapons are all separate and easily replaced with sensor/commo bits from the tank packs.  The spider drones are about man-sized in 15mm so they good small bots in 28mm, and they'll fit a 25mm base.  The larger four-legged drones and gunplats could also work well (especially the big gunplats - they could be rigged with a kitbashed stretcher as medic/casevac droids) but they won't quite fit on a base.  Then again, they don't need a base, so maybe workable anyway.

Anvil Industry make these beautiful resin gun tractors in their AFTERLIFE range:

http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/AFTERLIFE/Republic-Taurus-Gun-Tractors

You can probably do something with the old plastic eM-4 mechs - about half way down this page:

http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Science_Fiction.html

They come with separate weapons, arms and some legs, and they're cheap enough to buy just for those.  For flying drones, look at the spaceships just below them n the same page - again, rather nice and ridiculously cheap.

Wow!  Thanks for the wonderful ideas!

Afterlife, thinking of N-Scale for the chassis... brilliant.  Thanks so much, folks!
