Dr. Zombie builds a - thing
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:17:55 PM »
I snuck in to this party at the last moment.

I am building a whatcanIcallit. In danish it is a "kulmile". Those "ovens" you build to produce charcoal.

This is what I am aiming at.

Here is the current state of affairs.

The mounds started life as birds nests from the local petshop. But now they will produce charcoal to my Viking blacksmith so he can make more swords and axes for the lads to plunder the British isles with.
I was originally goint to put them on one base but I cut it to small and it ended up just looking like two boobs, so I caved in and made two seperate ones. I do not know if this disqualifies me..

Just one base for the comp but no reason why you can't finish the other somewhere else  :)

Very cool.  Not a topic that usually makes it onto the table.

If my memory serves me right, the colliers were believed to possess magical skills and knowlegde in the medieval times.... I guess it was due to their "mysterious" work in the forests and their appearance was somewhat dirty and all that.

Yes, I need to make one for myself for sure.

I am still working on this and have started painting. But I fear that it is already so advanced that I should not post any more wip shots.

If you've started painting, you must be the most advanced of the contest.

I agree with you that there is a point that you should just stop posting and wait until the contest starts.

Good luck.

Tony

PS.
There are images of charcoal burners at the Bewdley Museum in Bewdley and they look just like the ones you have modelled.

Nice.

For a moment there I thought it was a post-apoc project with someone building a "kålmila" on top of an building untill I realise it was just a radiator.  lol

Hehe. The radiator next to my painting desk is handy for speeding up dryingtimes.

So can anyone tell me what this is called I english?

In English it is usually known as a charcoal clamp, although probably only by industrial archaeologists these days.
