Fantasy sculpts
« on: 01 February 2015, 11:00:20 PM »
Hi!

I'm new to the forum so this will be my first post :)

Right now I'm working on some fantasy miniatures that I'm trying to make in 28mm. They tend to be a litle oversized. I'm sculpting in casteline a hard wax that I'm trying out. So far I like it alot! I intend to cast them in pewter later on.

EXCELLENT & IMAGINATIVE WORK! Your creations are unique, nicely detailed, AND have WONDERFULLY expressive faces.

Nice sculpts; very characterful and distinctive.

I'm intrigued by the material you use. My understanding is that you heat it up to work it like a putty or a clay, or do you also carve it?

Thanks!

I use it both ways. I use it as you mentioned like a clay/putty while warm. In this scale I can just rub it between my fingers to get it soft. Or I can carve it when it's cold. If I want it real hard I just put it in the fridge for a while:)

I have not used this material for a long time but I really like it and I think it has great potential.

Thank you! I've just used the material a couple of weeks and I really like it!

Here is a update. I've just started sculpting the sword.

I made some new sculpts a thief and a warrior. The warrior will carry a axe I think.

The first sculpt has been cast:) It was a bit tricky to cut up the mould but I could fix it with some handywork with the knife. You can watch the whole process at http://www.leadandclay.blogspot.se/
