Czech Army of the late 30's
« on: 20 February 2015, 03:05:47 PM »
Hello, I am working on a small ruleset based on the armed forces of Czechoslovakia in the late 30's. Can anyone point to some resources on some of the basics of the army such as platoon structures, different units, and equipment. I have had a hard time with my google-fu and thought someone on the board may be able to fill me in.

These may be of some help;

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?138192-Czechoslovak-army-1918-1938

But I think it's going to be a case of following breadcrumbs of info and seeing where they lead. Interesting topic though all the same.  :)

That's a lot of information

Contact Emil Horky - he did a range of rather equisite 28mm Czech figures for that period and may be able to help you out with additional sources.

I hope he still sales them. They don't seem to be posted onto his page.

I recall Emil saying that they were temporarily of the site while he concentrated on his TYW range, but that was a couple of years ago now. They were excellent (Paul Hicks) figures and I recall there was easily a section/squad's worth in the range, so 2-3 packs?  :?

Yes ditto with the pictures. The range of Czech equipment was both impressive and very '30s-looking. There are one or two about you can access via your favourite image search engine, but the ones from those threads would have been heaven.

The only one I have is this one of a military exercise.

Hi Guys, this is me Emil. I've finally decided to register with the Lead Adventure Forum. So, the Czechoslovak army is still available in my http://www.horcata.eu/category/czechoslovak-infantry/ and I'm even seriosly considering to enlarge the range.

Here are some very good images of the army in the 1930s. http://www.fronta.cz/fotogalerie/ceskoslovenska-armada-1938-i

Hi Emil!  :)

For some reason I thought you were already a member... but anyway welcome aboard! Good to see those figures back for sale again too!

Please do consider expanding your range... perhaps even consider some Hungarian infantry to pit them against*, or to use for Slovaks and Hungarians on the Eastern Front?!

* I've had a long-term idea to game a war over Ruthenia in the '30s. What can I say?  ;)

Ruthenia? May happen some time. Now I'm planning some "dollies" that can be used for various 1930s armies and for the WWI late war Austrians. So, they should also be usefull for the Hungarians and the Ruthenia will come true.  ;) All that is a question of time and money.

Isn't it always, whether you are selling or buying?  ::)

WWI Austrians or a variety of Interwar types would work to be honest. I am picturing the West of Ruthenia as the 'Reussmark' and ethnically Hungarian and so are the driving force behind a desire for annexation and unification. Any Non-German but 'Germanic' style figures would work for me.

It is a long term project, so there is no rush.  :)

Welcome to the forum Emil,
I never got round to painting the figures I bought from you or base them on Czech coins as I'd planned however they were some of the finest figures I owned and they now grace the collection of a good friend.

Best regards
